Do you mean bids you have made on items or

bids a buyer made on your items.

Have you checked the bid history of the items

involved and see if they have been cancelled or retracted.

The HIGHEST bid is the winner.

Not the first bid or the last bid.

If you are losing to higher bidders, you are not bidding market value.

I am a seller and I have discovered that eBay allows bidders to retract their bids without even contacting the seller.I had one buyer do this with five items.

It has always been like that.  Buyers have always had the right to cancel their bids (under specific circumstances).
