I plan on calling ebay on the issue, as a gamer I like to browse games and maybe deals catch my eye, however I see ever increasing posts for SOCOM confrontation and MAG for the ps3, now these games are all well and good IF THEY WORKED, the servers shut down a few years ago... I wanna say jan 2014 or 2013. and these games are ONLINE ONLY so they are worthless and most say no refund but don't state to the unsuspecting buyer they are worthless as a game and better as a monument to your love of the series or your stupidity for buying something worthless... I wish there was a better way to report items like this to ebay because out of the dozens of posts I saw 1 that said it was offline and purely a collectors item now. THAT I am ok with as it isn't lying to the people looking for cool games, not every gamer is hardcore and knows this information and not everyone on ebay is tech savvy to do the research on the item cause most people have good in them and don't think they'll be screwed... these two items need better methods of reporting. and I hope anyone with the misfortune of buying one returns it under ebays return policy seeing as they are all misrepresented in the description.
I wanted to post that out there... I'm new here and didn't know where it should go and I know if it were me I'd not want to be screwed. I know a lot of people probably know it, but there may be some poor people thinking they are getting a deal... and I want to help them for just being misinformed...
thanks to all who read this.

I'm one of the technodolts.
Are you saying that these games do not exist as a physical entity, like a cartridge or a disc, but only as a digital game that requires a code to activate?
If so, any game that is not listed in the Classified category, which is where digital products are sold, is misclassified and can be Reported to eBay as such.
There is a Report button on every listing.
The rules for digital products are different from physical products. Neither buyer nor seller has the same protections we are used to.

do some research, you just have to look. the games have physical copies. however the gameplay is online only. you can only play online, however since the company shut down the servers the games are worthless to people looking for games to play, they are just junk now technically but every post I usually see doesn't mention this, and I worry about buyers that don't know and just buy the game cause it sounds cool.
here's an example of MAG: item number 171965474027
and here is one for SOCOM confrontation: item number 261906029153
now look at those pages, they clearly like about 98% of similar posts advertise the game, seems fine and all right? no its not, and here is a link why it isn't
according to this and many other articles it states the three games are listed as having their online servers shutdown as of January 28th 2014, now its a shame when a game is shut down and can't be played online, but these two games had no offline mode, they are now unplayable. SOCOM 4 did have an offline mode which is why my post doesn't mention it even though its listed in the article. now relook at any of the two items I listed or search a new one, they talk about how great the game is and such and even has a video, but no mention of it being no longer playable, I believe that is misrepresentation, even when I've seen reviews it shows the best reviews for the games but not current ones... and all current reviews state the game no longer works.
that's my issue femmefan1946 while they are a physical entity they are no longer a playable game on the console due to the online servers being shut down for these online only games. I hope this information helps you understand why I make this post. the sellers are taking advantage of people and its a shame, I have even contact people on this topic and usually they ignore me. it's oddly suspicious, I bet if someone pretended to be a buyer and was asking questions about the game the sellers would likely talk about how great the game is but not mention how they can't be played anymore.

Hi azuralstrike,
As a part-time video game player, and as someone who has also sold a few games on eBay, I wanted to chip in my thoughts.
I haven't played either of these games (not my genre of interest), but I understand your frustration and I agree that with games like this, it should be made clear by the seller that the game is no longer playable and that the buyer is simply buying a collector's item.
We have to keep in mind, though, that many video game sellers on eBay are re-sellers, so they acquire games from other sources and re-sell them for profit. While the games I sold came from my personal collection and were ones that I was knowledgeable about, these sellers may not have much of an interest in what they are selling and may not know that these games are now unplayable. They are simply listing these games as they would any other, assuming that everything is hunky-dory.
I think it's great that you are passionate about this, and I wholeheartedly agree with you. If contacting these sellers hasn't yielded results, though, I feel it may not be worth stressing over for much longer. If the seller ends up selling the game and then has to deal with an INAD case because they failed to properly describe it, then that is their problem not yours.
Take care.

I'm only posting this mostly for the buyers, that don't need the frustration, I agree with your views and thank you for expressing them. sadly through what I've seen they mostly look like ads that have been copied and repasted saying 'I tried the game it works fine' I'm not going to relook and see exactly how many say it but if it does say it then its a bold faced lie and re-sellers should maybe actually do a bit more testing of the products they sell, it's a business for them basically right, so they should run the business with the customer being a priority, doesn't take long to pop in a game and run a few circles in a match or make sure you can actually get to a point in the game you can participate.
anyways thanks for your awesome addition, you take care too
