I opened a case to return a non-functioning item to a seller in China. It took at least 4 weeks for me to receive the item and so when I received an automated email from ebay suggesting I contact the seller after about 3 weeks, I didn't worry too much about it. However, I just received an automated email saying the case was now closed. As far as I know, the seller didn't receive the item yet and had not refunded me.
The ebay page indicated that I could appeal the case but the directions on how to do this meant that I had to go to my purchase history page and select from a drop-down for the item in question. The item no longer appears on my list though, so I cannot appeal it. I have no ideal what I can do about it other than possibly start a case with the post office and I'm sure that won't go well either.
Does anyone know how to contact someone at ebay to reopen the case to give it more time to conclude naturally?

You should be able to find your purchase on your purchase history page by changing the period at the top of the columns or by clicking on archive and selecting that time that matches the purchase.
You don't mention checking the tracking on the item so I assume that you sent it without tracking/delivery confirmation? Which Canada Post service did you use...small packet air? That doesn't have del. conf. or insurance.
Depending on how you sent the item, the seller really might not have received it yet. Or, they have received it, noticed that you didn't have tracking on the package and do not plan on refunding. Or, they could have just forgotten...I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
If there has been enough time for them to receive the item then you should contact the seller. Unless you have a delivery confirmation showing that they received the package, ebay is unlikely to get involved now since they do require buyers and sellers to show proof when one of the parties says that the item hasn't been received.

What you should have done is opened an item not as described case.
I'm sure that it is a nad case that they are referring to in the first post.
