Bid once, bid your maximum.
You will never be beaten out because the only person who bids more is spending too much, the fool.
It is not the last bid that wins, it is the highest bid.
Some of those last second bids were placed days ago with a sniping service like esnipe. Those bidders only bid once, bid their maximum and never pay too much because they don't get caught up in a bidding frenzy.
