Liberal reign in Ontario 10 years tomorrow

And here's the result.

  • Our debt doubled
  • Our household energy rates doubled
  • One million Ontarians are either out of work, on welfare or gave up looking
  • We lost 300,000 manufacturing jobs, while the Liberals added 300,000 bureaucrats to the payroll
And now, after 10 years of racking up the government credit card, the Liberals are gearing up to raise taxes and add road tolls to pay for Toronto subways.

It’s been too easy for the Liberal Premiers of the past decade to look the other way and say “not us, not now” when facing the tough decisions. Ontario needs a Premier who will take on the tough issues.

People ask me why I want to be Premier, why I want to take that on. I want to be Premier to restore the promise our province once offered. The promise of a good job and the security to buy a home and raise a family. The promise that the next generation does better than the one before it. And I know in my heart we can do it.

We’ve done it before and we’ll do it again. It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. And the Ontario PC Party will get the job done.

You must be kidding!! You want to turn Ontario over to Hudak and have him destroy what's left???? Hudak and his wife, both leftovers from the Harris days. You do remember Harris don't you? The Conservative leader who ran away with his tail between his legs rather than get voted into oblivion! Even previous Conservatives want nothing to do with Hudak.

Do I like the Liberal Ontario government? NO. But I'm not going to vote for Hudak and burn the Province to the ground.

Well for one thing you have always leaned Conservative and secondly your OP spoke about how bad the Liberals were and then quoted Hudak as saying "And the Ontario PC Party will get the job done.".

You will vote Horwath??!!!! the Union God??!!!!!! You don't like unions!

Ok, who are you? You can't be valve. Has the Invasion of the Body Snatchers actually happened!!!!

Rather than just waste my vote Andrea is the least of the worst we could elect. Electing a NDP minority government may be the only way to wake up the Conservatives and boot Hudak. One out of five by elections wasn't enough to do it. It's not that I don't like the Conservative ideology, it's they will never win a majority with Hudak.

Yes, however Hudak has to go one way or another.

Re: Liberal reign in Ontario 10 years tomorrow

But if the NDP get enough votes they will work with Hudak in a non-majority government as they have done with the Liberals and Hudak will still make changes detrimental to Ontario and to repair them will take as long as the repairs in certain areas after the Harris regime. Look at Ontario as a garden and with Hudak and the NDP the NDP will get to plant a few flowers here and there but Hudak will put Round Up on everything else.

Vote Green, because all the other ones have had their kick at the can for toooooo long a time and we've never been happy with any of them.

Re: Liberal reign in Ontario 10 years tomorrow

In my opinion, if the Liberals are ever brought to task for some of their past "crimes" against the people of Ontario, Horwath should be right there with them.  She is as guilty as they are.  It is her support of the Liberals over the last couple of years that has allowed the Liberals to do as they please.

Supposedly, she has gained some concessions from the Liberals - I'm still waiting to see them.  In reality, she is playing the political game while lying through her teeth.  She isn't supporting the Liberals.  She is buying time so that the NDP can nominate a full slate of candidates for the next election.  She is also waiting for the polls to say she has a chance of winning.  Until then, it is in the best interests of the NDP party to support the Liberals.  She is not doing this for the people, as she claims.

Is there an honest and truthful politician out there?

Re: Liberal reign in Ontario 10 years tomorrow

I really liked this article by Shauna Rae in the London Free Press (she was at one time, a radi talk show host):

Rae: Politicians owe us transparency

Could it be something as simple as trust?

With the city abuzz lately with talk of the next municipal election, and an exceptional amount of plotting already on the horizon, I wonder what it will take.

I, along with many people more thoughtful and clever than I, have been wracking our brains for a long time, trying to come up with the solution to the political apathy in this country. (It’s not just a city or provincial issue; it’s nationwide.) Like a lot of folks brought up in my generation, I was taught that if you didn’t vote, you couldn’t complain about your frustration, unhappiness and maybe disdain for the government of the day.

I was taught to appreciate the fact that I even had the right to vote.

I can talk about the fact that people have fought and died for our right to vote as a democratic society until I’m blue in the face. I’d just be adding my voice to countless others who have tried to convince you voting is important and a distinct honour many don’t have.

So why don’t you vote? Yes, I’m talking to you, the person who desperately wants to be engaged in your community but who thinks that your voice doesn’t matter or that the people who are politically engaged are doing so strictly for underhanded and self-serving reasons. Am I right?

Who could blame you, really? How did we get here? I find myself distrusting politicians, even people I thought I could respect and count on.

I’ve never publicly said it before now, but there were times when I was a radio talk show host interviewing some politicians when I felt like I needed shower afterwards, to wash away the remnants of the bald-faced lying I had just facilitated.

As Oliver Hardy would say to Stan Laurel, “That’s another fine mess you’ve gotten me into.” We’ve given politicians too much power, which in turn, makes us feel powerless. We’ve raised politicos up to the status of untouchable, hence when they are accused of heinous wrongdoing, they are steadfast and unafraid. The spin doctoring used to work, but we’re getting too wise for that now.

With the dawn of new ways to communicate, everyone is a reporter. It is becoming increasingly difficult to hide anything.

And how about all the fighting between parties? Obviously that’s not new, but I know I’m not the only one who is nauseated and turned off by each representative criticizing the others for their lack but themselves pretty short on their own plan for change.

Stop. The. Finger-pointing.

So we back off and decide to not to vote to show our displeasure.

Yeah, how’s that working out?

But for those who are politically inclined, I have a challenge for you. How about telling us upfront who you are? I don’t mean how upstanding you are in the community, and how engaged in the party or platform, but how about telling us when you failed and when you struggled and maybe that you got fined as a teenager? How about being relatable and imperfect like the rest of us?

Think about the shift in advertising and marketing lately. It’s less about the product and more about being human, building trust, telling a story and making people feel emotionally engaged. No one is buying the trickery anymore. We’ve been spammed enough.

A video by the U.S. restaurant chain Chipotle is an animated short, just under 3½ minutes long, and no words are spoken. The haunting theme music — you may recognize from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory — is the only backdrop to the animation. And only near the end do you see any mention of the company’s name. It is exceptionally powerful. It screams integrity.

So how about it, potential candidates? How about pulling the curtain back and letting us know you are indeed flawed and it’s not just about your political leanings but about being a human being in an increasingly disconnected world?

Who’s up for the challenge? If you are, you’ve got my vote.

And what line of reasoning did you use to come to that conclusion?

The Liberals have spent us into double the debt we had when they came into power.

Based on Horwath's platform and her party agenda - we ain't seen nothin' yet.

The NDP is all about spend, spend, spend.

Re: Liberal reign in Ontario 10 years tomorrow

Isn't it a sad statement about our country when we are seeking the least offensive party or person to vote for.

The one that will do the least damage to an already fragile economy.

about being a human being in an increasingly disconnected world

So true, the world seems to get more disconnected as we get more connected...

For me, I'm still not sure whether corruption is more prevalent now or whether it is just more widely explosed and broadcast on the media.

Same for government incompetance and mismanagement.

Re: Liberal reign in Ontario 10 years tomorrow

Just trust the Liberals to steal and cheat their way along..  Pull your head out of your ass.  I know people who have multi million dollar construction sites who dig a hole to drain up the already landscaped land(50 + workers).  Some liberal pen pusher comes and say there might bed a fish in that pond no more work here untill i get 10 million in studys done to make sure..  Well just dug the hole no fish buddy..  His reply was they couild have migrated..  Now to make sure this guy has a job 50 people out of work just the site preppers.  Lets not count the builders, plumbers, electricians, real estate taxes gennerated the list goes on even to the store on the corner selling coffee to the workers.  All due to this Liberal paraSITE  and his almighty job.  I did here a few of the real workers in this story mention throwing him in the hole and filling it in..  I think that was the guy that just had twins and bought a new house who now is laid off...
