Chrome Sign In Fails

For the past several days, when I try to log in via Chrome (current build 79) on Windows 10 (latest update), I get  the following message:  "We ran into a problem.  Please try again later."

I tried resetting my password.  No joy.  I tried clearing the cache and cookies and rebooting.  Still fails.  EBay is no help.

Firefox works (I am sending this from Firefox), but Chrome is my preferred browser.

Any experience or suggestion?

Have you tried Chrome in private mode?

Bingo!  Incognito mode gets me in.
