Hi Tyler!

Is there any word yet when the automagically added excluded countries will be removed or at least updated from our listings (on either or of .COM and .CA they are the same on each)

(This list: Excludes: Brazil, Philippines, Ukraine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Chile, Cameroon, Colombia, Morocco, South Africa, Malaysia, Kuwait, Macedonia, Costa Rica)

I ask because some of these countries are ok now (Malaysia is especially important to me) yet the buyers cannot purchase because of the automagically added exclusions which were added a LONG time ago and I don't think have ever been changed/updated.

Hi tyler! A little background: early this year I made about 140 masks which I gave away to friends and family. Gave me something to fill my time while staying home. Anyway, had some left over and decided to list some masks on eBay.com in my store. Sold quite a few but lately noticed that any listed on .com do NOT appear in search on .ca even though they all have shipping price to Canada. The only one that shows on .ca is one listed directly on eBay.ca.

Is there a reason for this? BTW, I don’t seem to have a problem with any of my other items such as sewing patterns showing up in search on both .com and .ca. Thanks!

Hi Tyler, this is kind of a nightmare problem with a buyer.

They opened a claim through PayPal today. This buyer did not pay for their item for 8 days. I had to open a claim against them. They finally paid on the 8th day. They have a history of leaving many negative comments on feedback. So I had to block them from any further buying. I had a terrible feeling about them from the start.

The item they bought was only $15.99 with listed shipping by air to the US for $12.50 which they agreed to by buying the item. This is in Canadian dollars, so it only cost this person in US dollars with the exchange rate about $22.00 total. Now they are trying to extort $6.00 from me, saying I am gouging her on shipping. How is it this even allowed? How do I even handle this?

I left a response on the PayPal claim already. Should I be calling PayPal also?

Thanks for your consideration.

Hi Tyler,

How long are you giving for buyers to return items? A month? Two months? I really wish (and certainly a bunch of sellers are) that eBay fix this whole mess the return process is.

1. No way to get tracking information when buyer send back the item.

2. Extremely long delay are given to buyers to return anything.

(Someone requested a return on June 24th, which I accepted on June 30th, and I got a notification this very morning (August 19th) that the buyer sent back the item.

Hey, since you so much want to be like Amazon, did you know that you have a maximum of one week (I stand to be corrected here as it may even be shorter) to send back an item with them?

3. Annoying notification every 2 days or so "Has (item name) been returned?"

4. Return reasons which are abused plentifully by buyers to get their original shipping back and free returns on OUR back!

(Uh, I ordered this by mistake, but I am gonna return it as wrong item sent because of course, it doesn't fit)

Looks like buyers can do whatever floats their mind when returning an item, and us sellers have our hands tied.

Thanks.

Good Day,

For the last few days I am no longer able to use the quick edit pencil in my Manage Variations screens. The quick edit pencil from the listing screen works but not once I try to manage the variations. See screen shot. Is eBay aware of this issue? It is a pretty significant problem for my listings.

Morning Tyler,

Bit of a follow up regarding the Item Specifics problem from last week. It appears the tool for fixing listings is not backwards compatible.

1)If you create a new listing it will NOT tell you if you have missed item specifics that are either required or may be required with the next eBay update. Also, you do not have access to the Do not see this message checkbox that comes with the tool.

If you update a current listing (Price/Quantity etc) and it happens to be a category with mandatory updates it may or may not get added to your list to be updated. Sometimes it's immediate. Sometimes the next day. Update it again and it shows up on the list requiring updates.

If you end a listing and use either Sell Similar or Relist the same thing will happen if it has mandatory updates.

Within the tool you are unable to view the body of the current listing to check for any item specifics that may be required. You almost need to have the tool open along with an additional copy of the listing. (Note: In creating a listing there can be much researching required with the original pass.)

Noted by myself and others(The fine folks that sell clothing)  if colours or numbers were used in the item title eBay's update will drop this info in what it thinks are the correct required fields, but there can be consequences. Dark Blue becomes Blue. 3.5 becomes 35.  Or the alternative result can be that info being dumped into an unrelated item specific. You have to watch for this with a very fine eye. The implementation of these updated required fields made fixing much more work than it should have. Personally it was over 200 listings. For sellers with a larger quantity it would have been even more substantial.

Sidenote: Revision Summary as per listing ONLY shows that a change was made and the date. Not what the change was. Example: Updated the countries shipping to for a listing. Revision states that shipping terms were updated and the date. Much more critical if it was something in the body of the listing..IE Item Specifics.

2) On August 14th I received the following email from eBay. I guess better late than never.

List for free, no action required
As of August 1st, you pay no listing fees* on up to 200 items per month. Indefinitely.

There is no way to activate other than a Keep Listing tab which just brings you to your create listing page. The offer does not show up anywhere in Sellers Hub. Guessing this is to make up for the sellers that had reciprocal listings on dot com. At this point in time I do not require but may down the road. Because each store seller gets different offers it may apply to someone else where they cannot access.

Thanks,

-Lotz

I believe there were other mentions of sellers receiving these NEW LISTING OFFERS but they were category specific. Not very useful for sellers that generally sell in certain categories but their categories were omitted.

This is not an offer.

Pretty sure that was just some ebay fuzzy advertising of the fact that non-store sellers now get 200 free listings per month.  It does not need to be activated because it is not an offer of more listings.

Tyler will have the last word but:

1) You as recipient don't need tracking. It's the Confirmation of Delivery that is important.  I do understand that the suspense is awful. If your buyer can't show Delivery, you win the Dispute.

There may be a deadline for delivery on returns, but the window for starting that return is quite long.

4)  It's not personal, it's retail.  Use Cookie Jar Insurance to protect  against the occasional idiocy -- including our own. CJI is just self-insurance, putting aside a few pennies from each sale to cover the inevitable but rare expense of failed transactions.

Hi @ricarmic - I wish I could tell you for sure! I'll see if I can peek my head behind the curtain and get you an update. 🙂

Hang tight on this and I'll keep you posted as I hear back.

Edit: Sorry, I know you're probably aware of this, but just putting here in case another person reads it:

We have been working with carriers and have updated the excluded list of countries earlier this month (link here). Malaysia wasn't on the list then, but a few others were. 🙂

Hi @msmaggie060 - your masks look lovely, what a great idea!

I'm afraid you've got me stumped on this. If I do an exact title search for one of your masks (the horse one is the one I went with) I can find it in the 'from international sellers' section, but I can't get any of the masks to show up just be going through and clicking on your profile.

I see that you're offering shipping to Canadian addresses on the items, so there's not a reason why they shouldn't be showing up. Let me see if I can find anything further on this and I'll let you know. 🙂

Hi @2nd-time-around-jewelry - that sounds like such a headache, sorry to hear about what's been going on.

If the buyer opened PayPal claim that would negate any recourse they had through eBay (for example, an eBay return would be automatically closed). I definitely suggest contacting PayPal for more insight into this.

Did they end up leaving negative feedback for the transaction? If so tag me in a thread on selling and let me know!

Hi @arkh_angel - a buyer has 30 days from the day they receive the item to request a return through the eBay Money Back Guarantee.

Currently, if you accept a return the buyer has 10 business days to return the item. In the example you provided, there was still an extension of that time-frame for buyers. That is no longer the case.

Tracking information on returns is something you can control if you provide the return label. Most sellers currently use Shippo, which has a great option to provide a label for both Canadian and US buyers. In those situations, you can provide a trackable service to make sure you keep up to date on when to expect the item.

If you encounter a return where you believe a buyer is abusing the return reason please make sure you report them through the return so they can be reviewed. Thanks!

Hi @flyhooks4less - you're not the first person I've seen this report from. I don't have an update on it but I know that it's impacting enough folks that I hope to see it resolved quickly. Thanks for the screenshot - it will help me with the tech team!

Hi @lotzofuniquegoodies - sorry for the delay on this, I was waiting for more info. My replies below:

1. I will share this input with the appropriate team and update you if I hear back.

2. The email you reference is regarding the pricing change announced here. It's not one that you should have received since you maintain a store subscription, and that feedback has been shared with the proper team.  The reason you do not see it in your Seller Hub is because you have a store subscription with an alternate monthly insertion allotment.

Thanks!
