Hello all!
Seems like I've been searching for an answer forever, and probably overlooked the correct answer numerous times (apologies all around), but here goes.
I have a brand new, factory sealed box, electronics item I would like to list for sale. Manufacturer warranty does not apply as the piece is non-current/discontinued and has been in my possession for three years. My question is - Can I pre-purchase a Squaretrade warranty (it is an item they will cover-already checked) and include it to offer in my listing? I would like to offer this to increase my chances of a sale. As in - Offering for sale is an item that comes with an included 2 year Squaretrade warranty pre-purchased by the seller at no further extra cost to the buyer.
Thanks in advance to all those who respond!!

Hi @northfish11 - I had to do a little research on this, but from what I've found out:
You can definitely use this as a selling point for your item in the description. You can't offer this as an 'add-on' option or upcharge, but it sounds like that's not what you were planning on anyway.
I think it's a creative idea to set your item apart from others. I hope you get a great price for the item!

I'm not an expert, but if I recall from the announcement when SquareTrade started offerings for eBay CA, it's not up to you if the warranty is offered, there are specific categories / requirements that have to be met first.
In other words, when a buyer buys a SquareTrade warranty, it's a separate transaction that doesn't involve you the seller. So you can't "force" the customer to buy the warranty, not even if you buy it for him/her. They make that decision.
I know what you mean though, it would save hassle as we all know buyers will buy it, have an issue, return it on our dime and be cheap about warranty. Happens all the time. But the flip side is that would be another way to commit insurance fraud if you pre bought insurance, used another eBay ID to buy it, then claimed your warranty. You know there are people who would do that.
