I just noticed that an item I shipped showed up as a late delivery. It was ordered on Jan. 31, I mailed it on Feb. 2 and it was delivered on Feb. 15. I have 2 day handling so it wasn't shipped late. It took only 9 business days from Canada to the US and I shipped with tracking and Economy Shipping From Canada. Does this happen because the buyer said it was late or should I stop adding the UR numbers to my orders?

What was the estimated delivery date showing with the order? I think that is the date it should be delivered by to not be considered late. If the buyer left feedback I think one of the questions shown automatically is "Did you receive the item by.....?" Sometimes the buyer can hit no (even accidentally). I don't think it's the tracking itself that would automatically put late delivery (though I could be wrong) but when we sent items with regular mail (untracked) it doesn't show up as late since delivery would never be known unless buyer let's you know it was received (usually by feedback). I've had tracked items arrive a day or two later around the holidays and not been told it was late delivery so I don't think it's the tracking.

The UR number is acting as a tracking nuber, so ebay is pulling that info and determining its late. The buyer when leaving feedback wont see the "did this arrive by x date" notice as there is a tracking number to tell ebay that it did or didnt
I have one on the USA site saying its late deliver with a UR number. The reason why is I mailed it Feb 27th (with in my time frame) and provided the tracking number. However it wasnt scanned into customs until March 8, and that casued the late ding as thats well past 3day handling time to be scanned as "accepted".
You can run a report and have it tell you what casued it, will either say tracking casued it or buyer said late

As @regs43 mentioned, when you use the UR tracking number it does not get scanned as accepted until it is in the US so it would have been scanned for the first time after your handling time. But if the item was delivered before the estimated delivery date you wouldn't get a late ding. As long as it's scanned during your handling time OR delivered before the edt, it shouldn't affect you. I'm not sure why this one did.

Yes, I checked and it shows tracking as the cause of the late delivery. Not really fair since we can't control the postal service and I can't ship a $10 US item with a more expensive shipping method than what I used.

I think that if tracking shows it was on time, the buyer saying that it was late shouldn't give the seller a late ding. At least that[s how I understand it to work.

I've only got one late ding (knock on wood) and it was from one of my regular buyers who answered the question "no was not received by". It was an item sent without tracking to Italy. My buyer was "devastated" (her word used) when I told her since she did not know answering (truthfully) it had arrived later than posted date would give me a defect. I've had tracked packet USA arrive late (because of over a week in Chicago) and not got a ding. I don't know about the UR numbers though, they don't work for International only US and I haven't used that in a while.
Looks like original poster added that tracking WAS the cause which is unfortunate. Certainly not fair when sending with lettermail doesn't give one. But then again when I send oversized lettermail it is within Canada and that will usually get there quicker anyways. Always something to learn around here.

I think I see what caused it. I looked at the tracking and even though I did ship it on Feb. 2nd (within my handling time) it didn't get the first scan until Feb. 11th No idea why.

Same as the case I had, just took the scenic route to get to customs for the first scan in my case (usually happens next day or 2 days after I mail)
