eBay Life Lessons!!!

Have you ever made a bit of a gaff on a listing? Made a listing free shipping out of the goodness of your heart and then realized your heart isn't that good? Does a case of rented fingers still haunt you now? Maybe even give you a chuckle to think back on it? Hey, it happens to us all......Eventually!!!

The one I have from time to time is incorrect measurements rented fingers. Now I double triple check. Other one is sending offers/counter offers in haste. Please don't try a test!!

Feel free to share. Not to worry!! Very few folks drop by here to check out this board so your secret(s) are safe with us...Honest!!  And who know, maybe we'll be able to feel your pain and relate or save one us from the same mistakes!! zipper_mouth

Listed something as new, but when I went to pack I realized it was very much used. Messaged buyer and asked if they still wanted it at a discount or to cancel. They didn't respond so rather than have a late shipment I just sent it out. Sure enough a couple hours later they ask to cancel. 🙂 Free refund and item for them, oh well, should have inspected it better.

Buyer wanted to purchase 3 items but couldn't ask for a combined shipping invoice so I did a special listing for them, all went well until the next day when someone purchased one of the items, I had forgotten to delete the other 2 listings. Now I am far more careful, often a mistake is a good thing, reminds me to check carefully.

I'm new so definitely still learning, but this weekend I listed an auction that I wanted to end at 7pm. It ended at 7am instead with one bid for .99 the usual last minute flurry didn't happen cause everyone was sleeping. Lost money on that for sure.

I list primarily old postcards. From time to time my fingers keep going when entering the price of an item.   List a item that should start off at $9.99. 15.99 19.99 etc and they end up listing for $9,999.00  $15,999 etc and miss what I have done.   When that happens usually get emails saying you're kidding???   or why is it worth so much?

Would be nice if someone goes for it but so far no takers

Way back when I listed a batch of postcards from the South Pacific basically using the information on the cards, since DH said they were not interesting for his collection/exhibit.

The "South Seas Cannibal" sold almost immediately, just as I was looking at my listings for errors.

The "cannibal" may have been that, but he was also a headhunter and was holding his current trophy!

I got $14.99 US for it, which was not terrible and it went to French Caledonia which was pleasing.  Perhaps it was the buyer's grandfather.

But what might have been if I had described properly and used an auction!

That's the thing with deciding between Auctions and Buy It Now. Sometimes heads you win and tails you lose. Ummm, sorry. I couldn't resist!! Robot LOL

eBay Life Lessons!!!

My biggest mistake was about 15 years ago. I purchased a tall slim Blue Mountain Pottery vase from a yard sale. It was clean and in good condition, I listed it and it sold quickly to a Canadian buyer.

She contacted me when it arrived and asked if I knew that I had left my seeds in it. I was an avid gardener at the time, but I have never kept my seeds in a vase. I told her I hadn't put anything in it, that was just how I bought it. Joking I asked "Were they drugs?". She replied, "yes, they are marijuana  seeds". She then went on to tell me that her husband was a police officer, and it was a very good thing I hadn't mailed them to the US.

Lesson learned: always check on the inside of items!! My kids still kid me about selling drugs on eBay.
