I've a buyer being forced to pay immediately which forces him to pay shipping when he's a local buyer who is going to pick up.
I've set up ( most) my listings for Buy it Now but i leave the Immediate payment requirement box Unchecked for all auctions. What am I missing?

Did the buyer use the cart at checkout or the buy it now button?
Hopefully someone will come along and correct me if I am wrong, but I believe using the buy it now button results in buyer having to pay before transaction is completed, whereas using the cart method does not.

It's my understanding that you can't require Immediate Payment on auctions, even on the Buy It Now option.
As a quick fix, you could message the buyer that you will refund his shipping cost on pickup.
Remember that you pay eBay and Paypal fees on those costs when the buyer pays them.
So you would be out that money. On the other hand, you don't need to package and haul the item to the PO. So you save that labour and materials.

Ebay puts immediate payment on some listings, more often on .com listings but on some .ca as well so that could be the problem. I don’t understand why it is some listings and not others.
The buyer hasn’t actually made the purchase yet..right? You should be able to change the listing to pick up only..you might have to change the setting from calculated to flat rate first. Then he can purchase it choosing pick up. If it is a multiple quantity listing you can change it back to calculated shipping after the purchase.

A buyer can put the item in the cart but unless they have more than one item from the seller in the cart they can’t request a total and the seller can’t send an invoice as the item hasn’t been purchased. If there is more than one item AND other criteria has been met, the buyer could request an invoice so that the seller could change the cost on the shipping. As soon an invoice is requested, the buyer has committed to the purchase.

I've never used local pick up but it seems to me that another seller posted that on .ca it wasn't possible to use calculated shipping and have local pickup. You can only one or the other. On this listing have you tried making local pick up the only option?
