Another change for Small Rural Canada post Depots

Now my Drop off does not stamp the lettermail so now  date stamped on it will be done in Toronto 1 day after I actually shipped so from a buyers prospective unless I show them receipt which is impossible using discounted postage I can never prove I actually shipped same day or within 1 day ..

The depot I use would stamp over my stamps with the date etc. so when parcel showed up late the buyer could still see when I really shipped it ...

NOT ANYMORE ..

Thank you Canada post for the white hair I found the other day at the fine age of 30

Fortunately, most postmarks are blurry enough that figuring out the date of franking is quite difficult.

Half the time stamped oversize never get cancelled at all, or just have a pen strike through them anyway.  Never gave any thought at all to having a date on a cancellation as being an issue

Most rural POs keep the stamp on the counter. Insist that they stamp your item, or offer to do it yourself. This has never been a problem in the tiny town I live in.

I agree. The majority of mail we receive with stamps does not have any sort of cancellation mark visible.

I think your local PO is handing you a line if they say they don't date stamp any more. I use a small rural PO and they tell me that they are supposed to stamp the items when they get them. If they don't, just ask them to do it. Sounds like they are lazy and making up their own rules.

Mind you, I agree that you can't even see any dates on the stamped envelope; they are very faint and blurred.

And another thing - my PO says that as long as the date stamp shows on the envelope or pkg, if the postage stamps or even one stamp falls off, then the package is good to go. Its considered to be paid for.

Like vintagenorth says - I also use a small rural PO, and they have told me the exact same things.

Mine too, and I deal with a really tiny rural community P.O. in Nova Scotia.  My friendly helpful clerk even stamps the copy of the buyer's address I print out on regular paper for my records when I send anything by lettermail.

Re: Another change for Small Rural Canada post Depots

I have known lots of folks who religiously followed policy and procedure long after it had been removed from the manual as no longer applicable. That is usually followed with "That changed? When did that change? No-one told me! I'm gonna keep on doing it anyway.".

I know that you have had some bad luck with the postal service lately so I can understand your concern but I wonder how often someone actually looks at the date stamp...I know that I don't. The only reason that I know many items don't get stamped is that my husband collects stamps and he always points it out to me when that happens.

Re: Another change for Small Rural Canada post Depots

I would wager that the vast majority of folks do not even know there is a date stamp on the cancellation, if in fact it can be read. All a cancellation means, is that the stamps have been, well, stamped. It means nothing else.

Re: Another change for Small Rural Canada post Depots

stamps have been, well, stamped.

The words you are looking for are either "cancelled" or "franked".

The gummed labels we call 'stamps' were originally the hand stamps with starting location and date of posting. The service was actually paid for by the recipient.

The gummed labels are sort of receipts for a service purchased but not yet performed. Once the labelled item is accepted, the label /stamp is franked which shows that the purchased service will be/ has been performed.

Re: Another change for Small Rural Canada post Depots

I think maybe it is just something other rural outlets have just not started to do as I was informed of this change just last week..

The reason I am concerned is it is my only way to prove when Items was shipped

If you look at my negs and neutrals that are 10 times more then I have ever had doing buinsess on ebay they are all Late or loss so that little date stamp is my only way of prooving to buyers that even though you weight 30 days you can see my the stamp date that I shipped within 1-2 days at the latest 3 but nothing close to justifying it taking 30 days ...

This although a small issue actually ends up being big one for me because like I said it was all I had to prove I shipped fast ...

I have no clue what happens sometimes I mean I honestly have some things get to the other side of the world quicker then a town 3 hrs away ...

I feel bad for most of my customers but the only ones who leave me negs are the ones who just assume I am lying and that peeves me right off because I don't lie and if anything I tell the truth to the point I tick off a few customers  from time to time ..

I always tell the truth and speak my mind regardless of peoples feelings as i was not raised to big poor you poor me type of person ...

When I cried I was told to stop

When I was sick I was told to suck it up princess

As a matter of fact I got my second compliment in 30 years from my father just 2 weeks ago when he felt the need to tell me I am an amazing father to my kids... So when people think I am lying it is a major insult to me because there are 3 things I raised to do ,... Be honest, work hard and don't complain it can always be worse ... ( I complain about small things but only sense I started selling on ebay LMAO ....

Either way these changes that are very small hopefully will not impact me in the way I think it will ..
