Feelings About Canadian PS Board

Just a simple little question for the few Canadian PS's that are here. I frequent both the dot com and dot ca boards. I have come to the conclusion that sometimes I need a break from the bickering that goes on at dot com and come here for peace and quiet. So far this board has been a real pleasure to read and helpful. Don't get me wrong I do appreciate the dot com board at times as it can be very informative but there are limits to how far people should go with the bickering. In the long run I am hoping this board does not go by the wayside as the other board seems to do at times. I am also hoping this board grows in size eventually. So I guess my question is, how do you feel about this. Please remember I am not putting the Americans down. I'll be interested in knowing your feelings.

A while back I got this e-mail from one of my buyers. The nicest fellow from Texas. We were blabbing back and forth about payment but adding in the social niceties.

He said it must be cold up here in Canada. Actually, I said, this June was the hottest on record and the temps we were putting up in Toronto were the hottest on North America.

He wrote back that down here in the U.S. thay have these things called air conditioners and if we ever come down there we should pick one up.

I swear to God...

Oh and by the way, a "Franadian" is a Canadian/Frenchman who did not step up and participate in the war in Iraq. How in-American doncha know!!

By the way, I IN NO WAY mean to hijack this thread into an anti-US joke thing. I am just sharing a cute eBay story.

Without my cherished US customers I would be nowhere and I kiss the ground they walk on.

What on earth is an air conditioner? Is that one of them things that sucks the tabaccy smoke out of my libbing room?

Please tell me that they don't think that all Canadians are Frenchmen. I am a Quebecer and I am anglophone. So...in some situations, I have to take it from the 'frenchmen' as it were..and now I have to take it from the Yanks too? Or...is saying 'Yanks' not PC?

Nahhh...I don't think so. Not this week! ;)))

LOL re the air conditioner. I was in Texas in July and it's darn hot there!!! Too hot and I was in the north end. In fairness to the Americans though, they don't know a lot about us because there really aren't a lot of Canadian influences. We watch a lot of American movies, American tv, read their magazines etc so we learn a lot more about them. When is the last time any of us watched a true Canadian movie, or Canadian tv show. Sure, we have actors and singers etc. but most of them seek out the US for fame and fortune. It's just the way it is.

I look at it this way. There are some Major cities in Canada, like let's say, Toronto. I'm from Toronto but now live just over an hour north of there. Most people from Toronto know NOTHING about the town I now live in. They don't know where it is, what is there, NOTHING. Reason being, why would they? Sad, but true. The bigger you are, the more noise you make! LOL

I was born in Penna. and lived in Texas for many years as a kid. Their ignorance (no bad intent meant) is due to the schooling. I was taught as a child that Canada was eskimos and igloos in school. Plus the fact you do not see much on TV about Canada. But I was fortunate to have a Canadian father who taught my different. As for FTD, I have stayed away from this person as he really upsets me and it is better I not respond as I will end up being suspended for what I have to tell him. Fun though to see someone has finally got his goat.

My niece is teaching school in Georgia right now and maintains that she spends far more time re-educating other teachers about Canada than she does her students.

Yes, deltone, I worked in the "big smoke" for several years. Most Torontonians believe that if you drive past Milton or Pickering you will fall off the edge. :<)

Don, if you want to see something real funny, just tell a Texan that you can fit several of their state into the province of Ontario or Quebec. I swear they come close to having a seizure. lol

In reference to FTD...that guy is a total idiot (or is it his wife, too, I haven't figured it out at all)...the FRanadian doesn't mean that he thinks we're all francophone up here in the great white expanse, there was a huge amount of French bashing when they didn't support the war in Iraq, so Canadians, because of our government's stand, became Franadians...I would imagine that those FReoles in Louisiana would take huge exception to the FRase...
That war has really affected my sales...my base of buyers is primarily Canadian now, and let's face it, there is nothing nicer than two oil rich Texans going head to head in a bidding war on an item...
I was powerful disappointed that the power chicks didn't invite me into the group...they being the epitome of what power sellers stand for, self righteous, business like always, and full of empathy for their fellow citizens. I got severely bashed by a ps'er chick for saying that I'd donate $5.00 to my local humane society rather than the woman who ran the ad about her child's medical expenses...
I like this board much better!

kpamber,

Don't feel bad about not being invited to power chicks. I wrote to them and asked if I could join and they said of course you can! A lot of those private boards work that way.

However, that being said, I have never been back. I just don't go for chick stuff. I go for PEOPLE stuff. Somehow when there is not a mix, the discussion seems hollow (could not think of a better word) to me.

I have always felt that way and so has my mom.

Morning all - Bird, does the word 'vacuous' fit your description? Sounds positively high school to me. Not that I have been invited mind you...but if I were 'into' a dizzy dame group...I'd have a bridge club or I'd go to Bingo. No thanks...there's not an ounce of allure in being a part of a group like that. Besides...I'm sure that perky breats are a prereq and how long will I have to wait to get measured?

K...no chicky group is ready for your wit and intellect. You'd put them out of business in a day. So, you just stay here wif us what's loves ya!!!

One more thing - in ref to FTD being turdy towards Canadians...look at it this way. Only the most insecure people need denigrate others for their own personal agrandisement. So, whatever he has to say is of little or no consequence. He may also need a bit of education if he thinks that Canadians were the only folks who didn't back the war. But...who's helping them now?

Jaymor,

BID BID BID watcher. Thanks,

As for educating FTD, I'd rather stick a screwdriver in my right thigh.

Now, speaking with you and the other members of this thread, is an absolute pleasure. What a great complement to the other board.

Thanks guys!

OMG Bid, I am so sorry about that. I'm not very bright, you know. I am not a reader, I am a scanner. Thus my new nickname for you. Seriously, I do apologize.

As for the exchange of ideas within our Canadian group, I do so agree with you Bid. Plus...there are some posters whom we just watch for because we know their input is going to be interesting, or intelligent, or witty or informative.

And now...I must get to my Freudian studies to try and establish a potential parallel between a screwdriver in the thigh and sub-normal sexual proclivities 😉

Jackie....(Bid...you can call me Jerkie just once as payback!)

Don't laugh at yourselves too hard. A couple of weeks ago, I got a really random e-mail from some lady asking about an item. Then she went on and on (and on...) about how she and her husband's passion for looking at some kind of warbler things in the Northeast and other birder activities. She wanted to know if I had any suggestions for Canadian birdwatching trips!

I corrected her too, but just to help her move along.

Have a look at my me page and you tell me. Yes there is a calendar each year but ours consist of fire fighting scenes that we battle. No Bods Ladies. But there are 40 of us in my hall and I bet half could make the bod calendar as they are in their mid 20,s and well put together. Me, well I'm bashful & 43! Thanks though!
