Firefox not showing tax information in listings

I noticed when I won an auction today that I was charged tax for an item when no tax information showed up in the listing. After experimenting a bit, I found that the tax information did not show up in Firefox (latest 64-bit from the release channel), but does in other browsers. Changing the tracking options for Firefox didn't seem to make a difference, no addons appeared to be interfering, and I did have my shipping address set up correctly.

If I'm running into this, I'm sure a lot of other people are too.  It would be nice if eBay either included the tax table info for all users by default, showed it for all users where the system can't determine their location, or at least gave an option in account settings to always show it.

Your problem is rather simple.  It has been known by eBay-Canada for ten years and has not been fixed.  According to them, it cannot be fixed.

What is it?

You are a "legacy user", registered on eBay.com prior to eBay setting up eBay.ca.  I have the same problem.

As such, when it comes to the GST/HST tax table set up by Canadian sellers, the system thinks we are Americans and does not make the tax table available to us.

There is NOTHING we can do about it other than starting a new User ID on eBay.ca

One would think a large operation like eBay could solve that small technical problem but... it is NOT a priority since it involves so few Canadian users.  Shame!

Now, if you want to have some fun, place ten calls to eBay customer service at different times, talk to ten experienced customer service representatives, and I guarantee NONE of them have an answer for you: they simply do not know.

Thanks for the reply, that's interesting. When I checked the other browsers, I didn't log in with them. Logging in did indeed cause the tax table to disappear.

I've only bought a small handful of things over the years, so starting a new account is no big deal for me (unlike what it would be for you).  Absolutely ridiculous that the older accounts aren't simply updated though.  Given that eBay talks about the tax information being present for buyers where applicable, I'd have to wonder if not updating the older accounts could even cause them legal trouble.

Hopefully this will at least help someone else eventually.  Thanks again for the reply.
