I cancelled an order before the money would go through, but it did anyway. Paypal didn't say it was cancelled. Why?

Recently I made a purchase that I found I wouldn't be able to pay for I would be dangerously low on cash. So I cancelled two days before my payment would go through (it takes two days for money to go through for me after I click 'Commit to Buy') and the other user was kind enough to cancel. It made it official. On paypal it didn't say it was canceled like my other canceled orders through the last few months, and now I'm short over 20$ that I won't get in God knows how long because no one has ever been giving me a clear answer over how long refunds can take. Why didn't paypal accept the cancellation, and why did it make me pay?

I'm confused ..how did you cancel? Buyers cannot cancel echeques. Seller can cancel/refund. If that occured , PP will credited your PP balance on clearing in 8-10 days. Would take an additional 4-5 days to transfer back to bank account.

It is wrong to be messing with a seller's listing and you mention other cancellations. If not committed and have the ability to pay , do not commit to buy.

PS .. perhaps seller has not cancelled/refunded.

Here is how this should have gone.

You contact the seller.

The seller refunds your money.

The seller sends you a request for a Mutual Cancellation.

You agree to the MC.

Both of you leave positive feedback. (Optional)

The problem may just be that the e-cheque process is slow, especially from Canada because the e-cheque has to pass through two banking systems.

Did you put a Stop Payment on your cheque at your bank? Most banks charge $25 or so for this.

Poor planning on your part....

Hello 'multimaige',

It's a bit late but I'm going to make a suggestion anyway, -- for future use. 🙂  When you see a listing you fancy, even those 'must have' items, - just below the 'buy' button is the phrase Add to Watch list.  Click that.  Instantly the listing is stored in your personal cache of items you want to watch and maybe contemplate buying.  You access the Watch List  from the My eBay at the top of the page, or the column on the left.

When you use your Watch List, you put all those items in it you really want, but until you have the money available you can keep track of them but don't have to get in over your head.  And if someone else buys it whilst you're deciding, - that's okay.  The thing about ebay is no matter what it is in this world, there's always another one to come along soon after.  And another, and another.  So if you miss out this week, fine, keep looking, - and get one when you are completely sure.

Ebay is loads of fun, but it's grown-up fun, -- and grown-ups honour their committments whether they always want to or not.  Never click 'Commit to buy' until you are absolutely sure.  Instead, click on Add to Watch list so you can take your time deciding, price compare, ogle all the pretties without having to make that committment.

Happy watching. 🙂

In future, you should never contemplate a purchase unless you're fully prepared to follow through with the purchase.
