I have a question about the final value fees when you sell something.

Is there any way a seller can get the final value fee on shipping lower?  If I sell an item for $100 and the shipping is $100 than e bay

takes $10 on the final value fee on the item and then another $10 for the final value fee on shipping.  So actually you are left with

$80.  Not to mention Pay Pal takes their cut too.  I was just wondering is there something that I'm missing here, that I should or

could be doing to get that value fee on shipping lower?  Seems a little excessive to me.

The shipping fee is based on your lowest domestic rate or the actual amount the buyer paid. If your shipping was $40 to Canada, $60 to USA and $100 international, the ebay shipping fee would be $4 regardless of location.  If the buyer actually paid less, for example $20 shipping on an adjusted invoice then the fee would be $2.

If you use calculated shipping on amazon.ca, the fee is calculated on the cost to ship to yourself.

If you use Free Shipping domestically, you would pay nothing on shipping fees outside Canada.

Don't panic. Free Shipping just means you include the cost of domestic shipping in the asking price for the item.

So If it costs $10 to ship within Canada, you ask $110 for your item.

Then using Flat Rate shipping you charge $20 (instead of $30) to ship to the USA and $30 (instead of $40) to ship overseas.

You get charged $11 FVF on the item and nothing on your shipping.

That's somewhat oversimplified but with a little thought you can save on shipping FVF.

And of course raising the asking price to include domestic free shipping can be counter-productive if many others are selling very similar or identical items.
