It depends on the nature of the Return. If an item has to be sent back because it arrived damaged or was Not As Described, then you would not expect a restocking fee to apply. If the buyer is retiring it due to reasons of remorse, then it would. As I understand it. Other members will no doubt be along to comment further.

Also, it depends on the terms of sale. Does the listing you purchased state a restocking fee will apply?

On eBay, there's mo such thing as restocking fees.

...No more credible an assertion than 'No returns'.

Unless the item(s) is damaged or doesn't match the description in the listing, you are responsible for return shipping with tracking.

Here is a link to Restocking fees on ebay but it is written with the seller in mind. http://pages.ebay.ca/sellerinformation/news/fallupdate2015/returns-updates.html#faq=faq-5

The pertinent information is as follows:

  • Starting in late October, all sellers who use restocking fees can save time by having fees automatically deducted from certain refunds. For example, if you add a 10% restocking fee from the new drop-down option in your return policy and your buyer decides to return the item because they no longer want it, the fee will automatically be deducted from the total refund issued to your buyer.

What I can tell you is that Restocking Fees are real and do exist on ebay Canada (and all other ebays) but the best source on whether it will apply to your return can be found on the listing itself. Go to a desktop computer so that you see all the information about your item that is available. Click the Shipping and Payments tab, go to the Returns section and look to the bottom right. Is there a subhead for Restocking Fees? If so, it will indicate the percentage amount.

I don't think a restocking fee applies to Items Not As Described (as in the seller sent you the wrong thing) but if you got your order and then just deiced you didn't like it, a restocking fee applies. The seller cannot reclaim postage paid to send you your order since that service was rendered; that is the main reason sellers chose to have a restocking fee.
