I just got the weirdest unsolicited spam-type message from ebay that taunted me about an item I put in a a best offer on in 2010 sold today for a whole $4 more than my best offer. Like, I must still care.
I haven't even looked at items like this on ebay for five years. It's not as if it's part of my daily search activity here. If it was ever watched, that was more than five years ago.
Duh. I clicked on the link in the message that said, 'hey (me) this item sold for $4 than you offered'. Here is what it showed me. I only vaguely remember this, and not because the item itself was so exceptional, only because I was on a mission at that point to buy similar items. in 2010 and not since!

This reminds me of all those people who came into our shop for an appraisal (and usually a cash offer) on some inherited collection. Given a disappointing value, one common remark would be "Well, I guess I'll just keep it until it goes up."

You never know if somebody might want something 5 years later! I don't know why eBay would contact you if the item sold to somebody though...
