Oh-oh, I'm on the "Watch List"

Bizarre Buyer Questions - Still shaking my head at this one. Bear in mind that I am selling books, and that reading is a useful skill for book buyers:

Firstly, here’s my Shipping info from my listing:

Shipping Costs are in US DOLLARS. Insurance is included

USA, All States: Surface mail (Standard Shipping) $5.23 orAirmail (Expedited) $6.68

CANADA, Ontario & Quebec $5.50 Expedited Parcel

CANADA, All Other Provinces $7.75 Expedited Parcel

ALL OTHER COUNTRIES: $ 6.14 Surface mail or $11.58 Airmail

Shipping note: A single book is fairly expensive to mail from Canada (Sorry, we have no media mail option), but it gets lots cheaper (within North America) with multiple buys - I can usually send 4-5 books to the US or Canada, insured, for around $10 - $12. I'm happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases - if you are thinking of buying other items from my auctions or eBay store, please let me know and I'll wait to invoice you..

Canadian Residents: Please note, GST of 7% is payable on your purchases. GST Reg. # will be provided on invoice.

A few days ago I get this Question For Seller:

I would love to but this book and am wondering if you could send it "Media Mail" for the cheaper rate of $3.85 as there is no panic for me to receive this. Many thanks, ***

My reply: “Hi ***, please check the shipping information on the auction. I am located in Canada, where , unfortunately, we do not have media mail or a similar option. Thanks, Ann”

Buyer responds:

Oops.......this is pretty funny because I am in Winnipeg.
How much does it cost to mail a book within Canada to R** ***??

Me: (shaking head & rolling eyes): Please check the auction. All the information you need is there.

Buyer: I think that I'm still waiting for an answer on the cost of shipping the
book from you to the Winnipeg area?

Me: I believe I have responded to your question, twice now. At this point I’d rather you did not bid on my auctions. Best wishes, Ann
And I blocked her, because I was getting a bad feeling about this.

Buyer's response:
My husband and I have been using Ebay since it's inception and both of our computers have 100% feedback !

I asked you a very simple question and you chose to answer it in a manner that was so ignorant.

How dare you be so rude!!

I will be forwarding our correspondence to Ebay, so that they can put you on a "Watch" list.

You are the type of seller that Ebay does NOT need !!

There's always one in every crowd ...... and you get the prize.

Regards to a fellow Canadian that puts this country to shame. Are you this rude to our American neighbours ?!

Okay, was I unbearably rude?? Maybe I need a vacation, because my tolerance level for stupidity is at an all-time low.

Must be a full moon...

I too have been getting my share of whack-chops lately. In fact, yesterday I had some guy email me out of the blue swearing at me because he hadn't yet received his package. He paid on June 27th - item shipped air small packet on the 28th. Well, I explained to him that I am in Canada and to allow 10-14 days with US customs at the border. I was polite and professional in the email, trying to overlook the fact that he was not. His response was something to the effect that he didn't care where it was coming from, he wanted it NOW! Gonna leave you negative feedback! etc etc.

So, I fired up my scanner and scanned a 1-figure salute and emailed to him. Hey, if I'm going to get the neg, I may as well deserve it.

I guess that's why I don't come to discussion groups to learn about professional customer service. 😞

Oh-oh, I'm on the "Watch List"

Hmmm...I have had quite a few people lately trying to tell me how I should run the business as well as an increase of smart alecks and ludicrous demands...

I figured this increase was due to an increase in volume, maybe it is because I allow alot of buyers with feedback under 10 to bid on my items as these are usually the ones lecturing me...LOL

Zarzuella - Did your irrational customer have a high feedback rating? I find usually the ones with the high ratings even try to outdo my curteous correspondence...

Also I am new to the book market and just started selling a marketing and media book for an author pal of mine...I was wondering how you ship your books as I ended up setting my shipping prices for $8-10 USD for Canada sending them expedited parcel in bags similar to the power seller freebies we received a while back...

Thanks,

No it's the "official" eBay watch list special for rude and ignorant sellers who don't know the eBay "rules".

I'm on it several times (and proud to display the negs to prove it)

modern_tech_solutions ,

I ship to the US via the cheapest available method for the weight of the packaged book: eg.
under 500g. via small packet @$5.23,
under 1 kg via small packet $7.88,
over 1 kg I just charge a flat $9.25 and use expedited.
Its tough competing with US sellers offering shipping at $3.00 via media mail.

Although I try not to, inevitably I do end up in situations like you did Ann where you just have to block them and move on. I think you were rather polite about it actually. I have a very short fuse when it comes to repeating stuff that's in my listings. About a year ago I actually had to pull a listing due too many potential bidders irritating me with stupid questions.

However, there was one particular listing in recent history that I remember for an $8000 pair of speakers where the seller sent highly insulting replies to buyers *AND* posted them on his listing...there were about 20 of them when the auction closed. Funniest stuff I've ever read, but the seller was an absolute idiot for posting them (he has almost 600 feedback).

I have a low tolerance for stupidity as well. I think I may have taken a different approach to your questioner. I would have said something along the lines of thanks for your interest in our items. Shipping details are noted in the auction listing for bidder's convenience. Shipping to your location as noted in the listing would be bla bla.

I would have told her it was in the listing but I also would have told her the figure in the email. It's not that hard to add it in. Just a suggestion. 🙂 I know I type exceptionally fast and have recently learned that that's not the case with the rest of the planet, lol, but I still would have put it in the email for her. Stupid person, very likely yes, but stupid person who wants to give you money. Money is good. :)

I am with jake on that one..

I figure there will always be those that don't want to take the time to read the whole auction but will buy if you can withstand a little stupidity...

Me I have a bit of a cynical approach when it comes to questions on shipping costs, when the answer is clearly in the listing. I just add $2 to the price for the aggravation of having to answer there email. Oddly enough everyone of them has paid it without question, I guess it pays to read the listings after all.
