Paypal not letting me log in. They want my phone # so they can call me "in a few minutes"

This is the absolute limit.  I have had my Paypal acct. for over 10 years.  All of a sudden, when I tried to log in, they now want my phone #, so they can "call me in a few minutes" to verify who I am.  I am not going to pay for a call from god knows where, not even 1 minute, on my cell phone.  I do not have a land line.  So, here's the question.  Has anyone else out there had this happen?  Thanks

Not on Paypal, but for my Ebay log in, yes. It is an automated call, probably from California, giving you a 4 digit confirmation pin jumber. At least, thats what it does for the ebay log in. During the sign in process, you will need to enter that pin number. Be aware, this happened to me a couple of times. It may have something to do with where you logged in. I suspect in my case it was because I logged in from a different IP address on a different computer. As I said, it happened to me a couple of times, but hasnt happened for a month now.

Thanks Rick, I tried to log in from my home computor, with exactly the same email and pw as before. There was no pin # or anything. There was a big spiel about security and to enter my phone #, so they can call me back in a few minutes. That's completely ridiculous. It now seems we have to have a phone # on file as well as a creditcard. It's almost like they're saying, they are not confident that we are protected with our pw sign in. I will never give them my cell #, so I guess my "carreer" on ebay is finished. I think the nerds at ebay (who now owns Paypal) have far too much time on their hands, if they have time to create automatic nuisance interferences like this. Cheers
