Hello Ebay members,
TL;DR version, I got fully refunded but i still have the item and when I try to contact the seller to do the return item process I get a message saying I can't return the item and the case has been closed.
---------------
If someone can answer this I'd very much appreciate it. I'd first like to submit some background information. I recently purchased an item on Ebay.ca from a reputable seller with great reviews and high positive feedback. The seller also had Ebay money back guarantee listed and payments through Paypal were accepted.
So I click on the Buy now option and go through the payment process. I get a receipt notice from both Ebay and Paypal and an hour or so later an automated email message from the seller, they will process my order shortly. Forty eight hours later I received the tracking number and positive feedback message from the seller via Ebay.
Fourteen days later I received my item only discover that it was missing a part, I contacted the seller (through Ebay) regarding the missing part and attached photos of what I received. I waited forty eight hours but didn't receive a reply. I decided to return the item and contacted the seller through Ebay's return process. (This process as some of you know requires that you wait several days for the seller to process your request and respond / notify you. After this period of time has passed and the seller hasn't responded you may request Ebay Customer Support to step in, thus opening a case)
I waited seven days as per Ebay's instructions, unfortunately the seller didn't respond. I then opened a case through Ebay's Customer Support requesting their assistance. Shortly after an automated email from Ebay stating they would make a decision in forty eight hours and thankfully with Ebay's assistance I was fully refunded.
I'm thankful for their help however I still have the item and I tried to contact the seller to return ship the item but whenever I click on return item to begin the process I get a notice that says I can't return the item and the case has been closed. So what do I do now?

You should have the seller's postal address.
Write it down and put the item and the address on the top shelf of the closet.
If you get the return shipping from the seller, ship the item.
If you don't, donate it to a charity thrift shop. You could even let the seller know that you have done so.
If return shipping is $21 the seller may not have wanted it back $21 worth, and has written it off as a business loss.

If the seller had wanted the item back, they would have responded to your return request so if I were you, I wouldn't worry about returning it.

How much did it cost? What country in the item from? How thick is it and how much does it weigh? Get a shipping quote and if it the cost outweighs the practicality of doing the right thing then just forget about it since you will be paying the shipping by the looks of it.
If the cost is not that bad like $5 or less then you could do the following:
Send a message to the seller directly including the item number and ask for an address to return the item.

Thanks for the replies,
The return shipping would cost $21.00CAD, and it would be shipped to a US location. I do know that under the Ebay Money back guarantee policy and my case ruling (Ebay ruled in my favour) that the seller would be responsible for the return shipping. However since the seller isn't responding to my messages I'm hesitant to return ship the item. Especially since it took Ebay's Customer Support to step in and help me get a full refund.
