September 16th 2015 Weekly Session

Hello everyone,

Welcome to our weekly session. I'll keep this thread open for most of the day and be around on & off to reply.

If you have questions or comments on last week's Fall Seller Update announcement, please go to to this thread instead so that any members wanting to read about that topic can get all of the conversation.

Here are the issues I am currently tracking:

  • Full shipping FVF charged on combined orders with discounted shipping (dutchman48)
  • SYI form stripping the weight off when switching back to USD on an item that was originally in USD and set up with calculated shipping (block36)
  • SYI preventing relist and Sell Similar if the original listing had a non compliant photo (pierrelebel)
  • Notifications reappearing in the header (pocomocomputing)
  • UPC codes suddenly not recognized on live listings (mjwl2006)

And the issues for which I have had news:

  • Listings allowed to go live without a photo (rose-dee) - This is a known bug that is being worked on by the relevant team.

Also, something needs to be fixed with the ebay.ca Shopping Cart. When the shipping is set to Flat Rate and results in Free Postage, it overrides a buyer's choice to opt for Cash on Pickup. This caused me serious problems last week. My buyer was local; we had made prior arrangements for Cash On Pickup but he wasn't able to make that work in the cart, despite my assurances that he could and should. The buyer gets the message instead that shipping is free and they can't request a total.

Isn't shipping free when the buyer pays on pick up in person?

Here is another bug: I am currently communicating with buyer from ebay.co.uk and he is not able to understand his invoice and/or the CAD to £ currency conversion. He has sent me messages with photo attachments via ebay.co.uk Messages that have NO attachments when viewed on ebay.ca Messages. How is this possible? I now stand on the brink of losing a $97 CAD sale due to this.

Very hard for me to comment on this. Cold yo send me an email with the buyer's ID and associated item numbers?

Thanks!

Nope. I don't accept payal payment for Cash on Pickup transactions.

I certainly will do that. Alternatively, you may look into My Messages for communication between the last member to send me six messages with no associated attachments.

Perhaps I'm not making myself clear. If the buyer wants Cash and Pickup his order, he cannot if the items are marked Free Shipping. He can put the items in the cart but the Free Shipping makes it impossible for him to do anything except pay by paypal. If he pays by paypal, he can't opt for Cash on Pickup.

I don't allow buyers to come to my door to pick up their items if they've submit payment via paypal because I have no proof of delivery and therefore no seller protection from a paypal Not Received case.

Free Shipping is not Cash on Pickup. They are completely opposite aspects of the buying and selling experience. One is 'pay cash and go get' and the other is 'pay by payapl and have it sent'. The Shopping Cart button that is supposed to allow a buyer to Request Total from Seller on their multi-item order is greyed out because shipping is free. It doesn't work that way.

Re: September 16th 2015 Weekly Session

One (final) question Raphael -- and BTW, thanks for being here today, I know you must be really busy after the Seller Update announcement!  Woman Happy

I'm ending a lot of items in a very short timeframe on .ca in order to put the listings up on .com.  From somewhere I seem to recall that ending too many listings too quickly -- especially for "there was an error in the listing" -- could get a seller a black mark in the background.

Can you tell me if this is (still?) true?  I don't want to end up being immediately downgraded or restricted as a result of trying to do the right thing for my business and my buyers (listing on .com).

Thanks!

Totally right, I misunderstood your earlier post and only looked at the shipping part.

I need to try this out for myself. Can you send me item numbers via email? I need at least 2 of them with cash on pickup and free flat rate shipping.

That would be bad if your items were auctions and you had bidders on them. Since you sell fixed price, you are OK.
