I would like to purchase an item that is in the U.S. Being new to EBay I don't know if there are additional charges for crossing the border into Canada, nor do I know the procedures for buying an item that is in the U.S.

Shipping costs and procedures for buying product in US and shipping to Canada

There are two tabs on the listing.

One is for Description. Read it.

Is this what you want?

Does the description match the picture?

Is the item actually in the USA? (Some sellers are in the USA but ship from overseas. Many overseas sellers list on eBaydotCOM.)

The second tab is Shipping and Handling.

Open it.

Is there a price for shipping to Canada?

If not, use Contact Seller to ask if he will ship to Canada. He is not required to do so.

If there is a price for shipping, go back to the top of the listing.

If this appears:

Customs services and international tracking provided

The seller is using the Global Shipping Program. There will be an amount there.

Add the cost of the item, plus the shipping charge, plus the GSP charge. Is that a good deal!

Excellent!

Now click on Buy Now. (or Bid, but that's more complicated)

You will be asked to pay. Most sellers take Paypal. Are you signed up for Paypal?

If not, use Contact Seller to tell her that payment is coming Real Soon Now.

Sign up for Paypal. Back your PP account with a credit card. This is the fastest and most secure way of paying.

Now.

When your payment clears (almost instant with PP + card), the seller will package and ship your item.

Normally it takes about two weeks for the parcel to arrive.

If the seller used GSP, you get the item from the PO or the postie and that's it.

If the seller didn't use GSP, you may have to pay the Canadian duty and sales tax before the parcel will be released to you. You won't know how much this is until Canada Post tells you. If the value if the item is less than $20 CANADIAN* there will be no duty or tax.

See! Easy!

*At the moment the loonie is lower than the US dollar, so a $19USD item would cost $21 Canadian and be taxable.
