Should we downgrade rating of seller when this happens....

Hi,

I see it happening more often now. The seller is promising to ship within a short time after payment but all he or she does is print of the shipping ticket from the system to generate the tracking number and they send it to you but the package is actually shipped several days later. I really think this is an underhanded practice by some sellers to make it look like they are fast shippers when in reality they are not.

I wonder if ebay actually sat down to think about this and find a way to rate this kind of behavior properly. The seller does ship the item but sometimes not in the time frame expected and yet people fall for this and give good rating for shipping speed from the seller when it really is not.

what do you think?

"but the package is actually shipped several days later.:"

How could you possibly know when the seller actually shipped?  If the seller prints a postage label on Friday afternoon, drops the parcel in a mailbox that same late afternoon or the next morning, the postal system will not pick it up until Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a Holiday).

Then we expect the postal service to efficiently enter a tracking into their system every time.  We all wish it worked that way but we know better.  The postal system is not always efficient.

And yes, there will be instances when sellers go to the post office once or twice a week.  Often they will mention it in their listings. So a postage label printed on Tuesday afternoon may be delivered to the post office of mailbox on Friday.

Can you give a specific example (listing number) where the seller was shipping "several days later"?

I believe this happens, but it's hard to know for sure because most of the time it is out of the seller's control.

There are many things that could happen,

Canada Post being slow/behind schedule,

mail being returned and needing to be resent,

customs,

Mail being misplaced or inspected by Canada Post,

Severe Weather

just off the top of my head
