They cancelled my purchase; can they do that?

I purchased a buy-it-now item that was outrageously cheap and paid immediately with PayPal, then received a message that they had meant to make it an auction, so had cancelled and refunded my money. Are they allowed to change their mind about a sale because they got less money than they expected?

No they can not.

Nobody can force them to ship your item.

However they can not cancel without the buyers consent.

If they send you a cancelation request decline it that way they will not get their final value fees back.

You can also leave appropiate feedback.

As sellers can only leave posotive feedback or non at all you do not have to worry about retaliation.
