Recent Transaction and how it went down.

1. Bought 5 separate listings off of the same buyer

2. Buyer was part of Global Shipping Program

3. Was not able to combine shipping

4. Each Item listed was less than $20US which is the magic number for no Duty or Taxes/Custom Fees

5. Total for Pitney Bowes cut of the pie, a whopping $76US in shipping and fees.

6. Total sent to seller for shipping item $17US. Seller didn't even know about the other $76US in fees because he didn't see it on his end.

7. Through great communication solution was to cancel and refund each transaction. Seller than posted one listing with all the items I wanted in that listing for the original buying price. Total fees to Pitney Bowes $15 roughly for customs fees and another $20US for shipping to Canada. Again Seller only saw a portion of this.

8. If this seller did not use Pitney Bowes and the Global shipping program his shipping costs with tracking and insurance would have been less than $14US to ship to me total.

9. If the package was stopped at the border which rarely happens, I would have had to pay taxes on the items which in all my buying from the US has only happened twice.

Global Shipping Program is a money grab and is costing you customers. I see lots I want to buy including multiple items from the same seller, but if I see Global Shipping Program, I walk away. Please get rid of this horrible program, its prob one of the reasons your sales have been dropping. Its more problems than its worth.

Mostly good points, and I agree with the previous poster's suggestion to post this on the US boards. May I add a few observations?

1. Many sellers with GSP listings aren't even aware that they're offering the Global Shipping Program. These sellers have generally opted into the program accidentally.

2. Of course the seller didn't see all the program fees on his listing. He's not in Canada. Putting it another way, you don't see shipping fees to France on a listing unless you tweak with it accordingly, do you?

3. The seller didn't receive everything that you paid for your items and shipping because he only gets paid for the items plus the amount it costs to ship them to the Global Shipping Center in Kentucky, not to ship them to you. The Global Shipping Program gets that part right off the bat.

4. When the seller relisted the items as one listing, why didn't he get rid of the GSP at that point too?

I just stopped buying anything where the seller has used the GSP. Its a money grab and adds significantly to the costs of buying a product in the USA & having it posted to Canada.

If I see something I'd like and the cost for the article is decent then I ask the seller before bidding or buying if they'd be willing to drop the GSP and post it using USPS.

My success rate is I figure around 90% and it goes without saying the savings is over 50% in postage fees.

If you bid (and win) or buy it now then ask your goose is cooked!

You're also right in assuming they don't know they were opted in and even if they do they don't know what the rate is because they can't see it.

So if you ask make sure you tell the seller what the rate is you'd be required to pay and where you live so he can give you a revised rate if he agrees.
