This is not really a site issue, but an area for improvement. Everywhere you buy, there are ratings and reviews of the products, except Ebay. Here the buying and selling history are rated and peoples experience with the products are ignored. I would like to be able to make a purchase based on price, sellers rating, and others buyers input as to the quality or usefulness of the product. I have bought things at a fraction of retail costs on Ebay and it has been an amazing value, other times products have lasted a week and end up in the garbage. Product reviews would help buyers decide if it is worth the extra amount between products to get one with better reviews, or if the savings are worth it on a cheaper item because the user ratings show the two products to be of pretty equal quality.
I understand this would not work on a one of basis, but for the bulk sellers, this could actually help move their product faster. With 60 units sold, a good sellers rating, and positive product reviews, people are likely to 'buy now' faster and with more confidence.

Hi realhomerecipes,
I think that's a fantastic idea! Please send it to suggestions@ebay.ca so it can be looked into.

I agree - I recently purchased a product for my baby - an educational toy and at 1 year old, he is able to take the back off where the batteries go. It is so simple - just a flick of a finger will do it. Now, the item is geared for his age range, so this is totally dangerous. I wish I could leave a product review to warn potential customers with young children not to buy this item as it is a safety hazard.

Good idea ... Then maybe people would pay attention to Price vs Qaulity ...
I used to run a gaming store on here about 6 or 7 years ago and I imported alot of gaming stuff from china or hong kong and although the product was a fantastic price 1/4 of the products were defective ...
Did I want to rate the sell on defective goods ... NO they are just a seller in most cases not the manufacturer so saying a seller was bad because the product sucked is not really fair ...
I agree with this one ... I sell on Amazon and every single movie I sell on there has seller ratings on the product and It is very useful tool when deciding what to do

On second thought
I do not agree with this statement : I understand this would not work on a one of basis, but for the bulk sellers, this could actually help move their product faster.
Personally I think it would be more than usefull in that case, more even so that sometimes you buy something from a seller that sell multiple similar items (like jewelery which are often unique).
In those cases, maybe have a general or overall appreciation of the quality of the prodcuts a seller sells. If overall item rating is low, then you know no matter what unique item you buy from that seller, value/qaulity would be low and you'll get for what you pay for and no more. On the other hand, if overall rating of seller's products is high, then you are confident that unique item you are buying should be good.
As for multiple items, let say a seller puts on a new item with a quantity of 60. No evaluation of product yet, so really no way of knowing until some people buy it, but with a overall seller's item evaluation, you would have a clue of what the item might be like, even if it is new with no evaluation on it.
But definitevly have something for multiple items as well as overall for seller's items.
That would make me very happy as a buyer to see that.

Yikes!
Please report this situation to the Canadian Standards Association and theUnderwriters Laboratory Canada (CSA and ULC). These companies do safety testing for manufacturers and for importers.
I would suggest that your baby toy was never tested but was directly brought into Canada from China, a country with no rule of law and a devil take the hindmost attitude to product quality.
Remember this? Over 300, 000 babies affected by adulterated milk.

That this product was not exported is only happenstance.
There is another reliable resource for parents.

I was referring more to sellers who are only trying to sell one used generator, or any such item you could imagine. I think for any seller who is selling in bulk or multiple products of similar ilk, this can only help them. Assuming they are of at least decent quality.

Exactly why i think there should be product or seller's products evaluation, because if you buy directly from example china, you are the importer and can't really compmlain to CSA or UCL.
But seeing a products evaluation would help do the purchase or not.

Hello,
Sent in suggestion using link and got a response by mail which makes me wonder why we would even bother trying to give E-bay suggestions :
Thanks for taking the time to send us your ideas and proposals. We're always happy to hear from eBay members and welcome comments about our services.
We're committed to improving our website to make it a fun and safe place to buy and sell. However, please note that our company policy does not allow us to accept or consider ideas or proposals other than ones we have specifically requested.
Please understand that this policy is intended to avoid the possibility of future misunderstandings when new products, services, or features developed internally by eBay employees might be similar or even identical to your idea or proposal.
***Important***
Any comments or materials (including questions, technical or creative suggestions, and ideas) that you send to us aren't considered confidential or proprietary. To learn more about eBay's policy on submitting unsolicited ideas, go to:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/unsolicited-ideas.html
If you still want to send us a suggestion, you can do so here:
http://pages.ebay.com/help/account/suggestions.html
So does this all mean my suggestion wasn't even looked at and need to send it again ????
This e-mail so much speaks to me like : E-Bay has a suggestion feature/link, but discards anything that is submitted there, but they put a suggestion/link to make people happy..... Or maybe it is just saying : We are not taking in your suggestions...(but in truth some employees do look them up, implement them, and say it is their idea)
That is so weird and wrong.

It is already August of 2014 and no action from ebay to add a "product review" section under each product listing like it is done in amazon and some other online shopping sites. I have recently noticed that many sellers from China are using this problem to their advantage and sell all kinds of defective and junk products which makes buyers victims to false advertisement and misrepresentation of a product. A product review definitely helps both buyers and sellers and creates a more honest place for doing business. Some of the online shopping places (like alibaba and DX) which are filled with sellers and products from China have included a review section which are mostly useless and filled with fake reviews but this matter with ebay should be different because of the amount of business generated here. Lack of ability to post a product review by buyers will definitely have negative effect on business and unlike ebay, other places seem to have realized the importance of this matter for their business.

Totaly agree with Grandpasargad.
E-bay is missing out on a great opportunity here...unless they are content with defective items coming from China because it makes more sales, thus more profits for E-bay, and E-bay is willingly having a blind eye on the matter because it suits them.
