canada post returned package

I made a purchase with an international (Greek) vendor in November which was shipped out promptly. Earlier this week the package was returned to the seller with a note from Canada Post saying that the address was invalid. (I received tracking info from the seller when they shipped and this bears out this story.)

The seller has sent me photos and the address is totally correct - apart from a small area in the code which has been scratched out - the seller says it was returned like this, but say they put my correct postal code on it.

A couple of questions:

1) Which one of us is responsible for the new shipping fees to mail the item again?

2) Am I better off asking for a refund and buying again (my ebay Buyer Protection will end on the 29th - too soon for a reshipment to arrive).

I'd like to be fair to the seller and also cautious about my own back - any insight would be welcomed.

Thanks again!

P.S. The attitude of Canada Post when I called was "Our mistake - Your problem." 😞
