i had a bid on an item that was listed and was set to end tonight and now it's ended!! my bid gone!!

they had the item up before no one bought it...re-listed it, put my bid in,and now it's been re-listed again at a higher price of course! no notification from seller or ebay!! how is this possible?? pretty **bleep**py way of doing business!!
