This is my 8th year on ebay as seller and I truly dont understand how the search ranking works anymore. I was under the impression that if you are top rated seller, accept returns, offer free shipping, with shipping within 24 hours that you get a good ranking in search results. I am doing all of the above and when I am looking for a skating dresses in ebay.ca I have to go trough 6 pages before i see my first item, and this on ebay.ca. and ebay.com I am invisible I had to go through 1400 skating dresses before i saw 1 of my 600 skating dresses.
what more can I do, I am baffled, usually business is booming at this time of the year.
Anyone have any suggestion.
Thanks,
Christine

Well, it's likelybecause you don't actually mention what you are selling until dead last in your title.
I think that the item name should be first and then give the details.
Remember: when composing a title - search descriptions are based on Keywords.

Actually what i found out is that ebay is putting the emphasis on exposing the listing the most end listing fees so they can make the most money.
I have free shipping just about across the board, top rated, return ect, everything required for my listing to be at the top but just like you, my listings are at the bottom.
Now i spend far more time promoting my physical store than wasting it with ebay and it is paying far more than ebay without the aggravations.
ebay is all about money, they coudtn't careless about sellers that earned there place as steady reliable seller.
There are other options, look around, you will find.

On .ca I saw your first listing at around 310, on .com around 500
That was using "skating dress" as my search term.
Here's the main problem.......
"21,490 results for skating dress"
There are over 20,000 listings ranked below yours!

Ya know what? Upon reflection, you just may be right. Most of my vintage radios fetch a pretty good price and I sell about 90% of them and I usually come up on the first or second page of a search for items like mine. This plus, I don't have a store and I don't offer free shipping. Heck I only sell for a few months in the winter.
I guess I should be very happy.

in the 21000 skating dresses there is some sellers that are keying the words skating dress in their item title when selling their skating pants to get more exposure and they are crowding real skating dresses listings. Gosh there is a sellers it shows he as over 2900 skating dresses in store and when you click in his store it's only pants and jacket.
Thanks for all the good advice everyone, I am rewritng my titles to have the keywords at the beginning of my title. hope this will help.
