I think it may have been bogus as Ive never had a call from ebay and obviously wasnt expecting it.

Hi .. Did the right thing in not hitting the #. It may be ebay's authentication service to verify information or it could be a spoof.

Did you try a google look up. Did you recently make changes or sign in from a different computer.

Usually a screen will appear when logging in or when attempting to edit information asking that you accept a call from a third party to receive a pin # to enter.

If you have any concerns , click on customer support , contact ebay and call.

Someone phishing ? Don't press 3 ! Pressing 3 may put you in contact

with a phone # in a small island nation where you will end up paying

very high long distance phone charges. Best contact eBay for more

information.

I hunted around a bit. Here`s what I`ve put together.

It is similar to the added security on Google and other internet marketplaces such as Etsy. It is meant to provide protection for your account. The whole point is - if you are NOT expecting the call, do exactly as you did - NOTHING. Do NOT press the requested key.

If you had been attempting to log on from an unusual location, address, computer, etc - the system would have provided you with some information presumably telling you to expect a call to the phone number you have on file in your eBay account. The would provide further information and its purpose is to authenticate that it IS you making the log in attempt, or whatever it is the provoked the call protocol to activate.

So, it seems the calls are legit. While it is also possible they are phishes of some sort being clothed as eBay security calls - the instructions say `` Don`t press unless you are expecting this call `` . Since you are not, then do as you are told. Don`t press!

People who are expecting the call don`t write in to ask about this because they knew what was going on! 🙂

The biggest problem is that eBay does not seem to have a notice about this anywhere. It would be a big help if the phone call had extra info saying it is an eBay login authentication system (or whatever) AND gave a web address where someone could look up some info and reassurance - rather than leaving people wondering what was going on.

Ebay does not discuss security measures. Any issue with your account that activates security bots a screen will appear with instructions , accept a call or call a # page provides.

Should never respond to an unexpected call.
