why is it ...HONG KONG!?

I want to know why it is being allowd of sellers to say item is being shipped from NJ, USA on their item page and only 7-11 days delivery when in fact it is being shipped from HONG KONG and actually is going to take 3-5 WEEKS for delivery?

A reply from an actual employee of ebay would be much appreciated.

Re: why is it ...HONG KONG!?

Seller choose to describe the item the way he wants.

If you feel that there are errors on the description, you may want to write it on the evaluation or adjust your DSR :

Detailed seller ratingslet buyers rate sellers on 4 areas of a transaction:

  • Item as described
  • Communication
  • Shipping time
  • Shipping and handling charges

"why it is being allowed of sellers to say item is being shipped from NJ, USA "

As advised earlier, this is not allowed BUT there is nothing eBay can or will do about it unless buyers report the offending seller.

There is a "report" button in each listing.  If you know the location field is incorrect, report the listing accordingly.

I did confront a seller who showed "item from Hong Kong" but in fact they ship from China.  His excuse was his eBay account was registered in Hong Kong although he operates in China. When he list an item, it defaults itself to the location where the account was registered.  eBay says the seller has the ability to override the default and enter the "item from" location.  However, sellers tend not to do that to take advantage of this eBay loophole to deceive buyers the items come from Hong Kong.  There is a big difference in shipping time between Hong Kong and China to USA/Canada.  Hong Kong Post usually takes 10 days to two weeks but China Post usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to get to USA/Canada.  Making buyers believe the item comes from Hong Kong has an advantage to the seller.  If caught, the seller uses the default location as an excuse.  eBay should get rid of this default location and make the seller actually enters the item location.
