The cost of shipping is based on weight and dimensions, not on the price of the item.

The cost of shipping is based also on the level of service purchased. If you want to send something fast, you buy an overnight service. If you want to know where the item is you purchase tracking. If you want coverage against loss or damage in the mail, you purchase insurance.

If the item is crossing a national border, there may be duty to pay to the importer's country. There may be sales taxes to the importer's government. There may be a service fee for negotiating these costs which goes to the carrier.

For domestic Canadian use the postal codes K1A 0A6 and Y1A 1B2 for comparisons.

For USA use zipcode 90210

For overseas use Belgium and Russia.

These will give you comparisons on actual costs.

If you know the cost of the shipping up front, there's nothing to report. You think it's too high, move on to next item.

Same with item price - you don't report those.

Some sellers don't really want to ship outside of USA for instance, and thus will only use very expensive courier shipping. if someone actually wants to pay for that, then fine. Otherwise, they use cheaper shipping for more local sales.

Additionally, they may just have one-price shipping - they get an estimate for what most expensive shipping could cost (say Alaska or Hawaii) and charge that to all buyers.
