Advertised Coupon Code Not Working

Hi,

There's an item I want to buy on eBay Motors and advertised on said item is the coupon code "SAVEMAR25" which in this case would save me $20. Unfortunately, it doesn't work at checkout. I went and read all of the exlcusions and requirements to use the code and everything looks good any idea of what I can do?

Thanks!

Yes, show us a link to the coupon so we can read it ourselves...

@brettjet38

@adrid7656

There are links to coupons on multiple US front pages for various amounts in an assortment of categories. It could be another situation that if you are registered in Canada they will not work for us.

I only use eBay for testing and my favourite game show...Spot the differences. When looking earlier spotted these. There may be more.

As per fine print only good to USA and delivery to Mexico.

To my mind this puts Canadians again at another unfair disadvantage. In the past we used to see coupons for both buyers and sellers. Last few years they've become a trickle on this side of the border.

If eBay has a reason why we don't get the same offers, just say!!!

I did a Google search for SAVEMAR25 and this page was the first result:

https://pages.ebay.com/promo/2025/savemar25/

Looks as though it’s only good for eBay Motors items that are shipped to Mexico.

Your post would be an excellent topic for a new thread, @lotzofuniquegoodies. I have a few possible responses kicking around my cranium, but I don’t want to hijack this thread.

Re: Advertised Coupon Code Not Working

This code is being promoted on a lug nut listing and eBay randomly logged me out for some reason so I put them in my cart and logged in and now the code isn't working and the promotion isn't showing up only when I'm logged in.

I see you're registered in the United States, @bubbles310.  Do you have a shipping address in Mexico?

Re: Advertised Coupon Code Not Working

while editing I got locked out with a message about a time limit.. I'm assuming because of your reply. I was actually trying to provide information along the lines of your question so here we go:

I reached out to support in chat and he told me I need an address in Mexico for it to work.

Well hold on.. this is an American company/website, on American internet, my IP is from the US. Why would they promote it to Americans under these circumstances if it only works with Mexican addresses? Also, if you view the terms of the code it actually reads "The voucher is only valid for purchases which can be delivered to Mexico."

It doesn't say that you have to have it delivered there, it just says that the purchase has to be able to be delivered to Mexico.

Additionally, ebay has a Mexican subdomain for the Mexican ebay.... so why promote it on the ebay.com website?

I explained this stuff to him and received this response:

Yes however we have other users as well regarding on the coupon code of SAVEMAR however this coupon code can only be used if you have address of Mexico yes it may not say on the terms and condition however this kind of coupon can only be applied if you have an address that ship to Mexico

It's not my problem if ebay falsely advertises a coupon. I'm following the terms presented. If they wanted different terms, they should have presented different terms. His response also doesn't address much of my reply. His response boils down to "other people had the issue too, and who cares if our terms say otherwise?".

I asked if he can create a code that works. He responded with the following:

I hear you on this <my name> what I recommend of you is to try our latest promo code which is on our daily deals of SHOPANDSAVE and I would recommend to read the terms and condition as well before trying it on the itemthat you would like to buy

What?!?! Why would I read the terms, if they don't honor their own terms and the terms don't mean anything. What a ridiculous response. I tried the provided code and it didn't work. I reiterated the desire for a generated code that works since ebay advertised the code. He just said "our specialized team can only do that" and gave me the same code I just told him doesn't work.. which he provided earlier. Not sure what that means but I'm done wasting time talking to this guy.

I worked in brick and mortar retail for well over a dozen years, @bubbles310, and it wasn't unusual for customers to try and find loopholes or creatively interpret terms and conditions when it came to special sales and/or discounts.  I think you're one of "those" and you're just miffed that you found a different way to interpret the terms and conditions of SAVEMAR25 and the customer service rep you spoke to won't (or more likely can't) agree with you.

Have you ever worked in a customer service job, by the way?  Are you sympathetic to how much "pull" the person you spoke to actually has?  It's doubtful that they have the authority or technical ability to change the terms of the coupon to make it suit your liking, anyway.

Just think of how ridiculous the terms of SAVEMAR25 would be if they actually meshed with your creative interpretation of "ships to Mexico".  I have no idea why the item is only valid for sales where the item is shipped there, but it is what it is and it's probably not for us mere mortals to find out why.

By the way, my posting had nothing to do with your being unable to finish editing your post.  There's a fifteen minute limit here on the Canadian site's discussion forums for editing posts.  Last time I tried editing something on the US discussion forums, it seemed to be more flexible with the time limit.
