Different rules, that is why.
When purchasing on eBay, you are not purchasing from eBay but from a seller using eBay as a platform. When you click "Buy-it-Now", you commit yourself to purchase and pay for an item. A few sellers may allow cancellation after the fact but few do.

It works the same way ebay just has really stupid rules for cancellations ..
on amazon i want to cancel i just do it no matter what the situation and I don't have to hope a buyer agrees or wait 1 week ..
To me it is just a way for ebay to get a little more money .. I mean there is no other way to justify ebay's rules with that ..
Ebay a buyer writes me 65 days says i never received item.. i say sorry send refund but can not cancel .. ebay's system punishes me for being a good seller because I mean really how can I make sure my buyers report items Mia within the time frame..
Amazon I can cancel it all the time anytime and never lose on fees and never have to ask buyers if it is ok that I control my own business that I own ..
To me ebay's policy on that can not be justified
