Interesting.. problem is will the customs agents actually adhere to it.
also, does this include DVD movies? They say films but don't classify any further.

In theory: sure.
In practice? Who knows. Good luck.
It's the wild west out there.

From toying with the Zonos app, it appears that Zonos is not adding duties to CDs (8523.49.4000) but is adding them to vinyl records (8523.80.1000). Unless I'm using the wrong HTS code for vinyl records.

8523.49.4000 (movies optical media) or 8523.49.3000 (music optical media) both seem to be duty free with Zonos.
It's a small victory for anybody selling media, but there are still going to be some difficulties. First, it seems like Zonos will cost a few dollars per order. For rarer or more expensive titles, that might not be as big of an issue. For common titles, there is a lot of competition and less room for sellers to raise prices without losing sales.
The other issue is going to be marketing. We're all here on these forums digging for info every day because we live in this world, but your typical buyer who isn't a hardcore collector/hobbyist is unlikely to know that delivery duties are paid in advance. So they might not click on a Canadian listing out of fear of getting hit with a massive charge. I could even see a scenario where if you tell them "110 percent you won't be charged anything at the door", they still might not be sure. So getting those buyers back is going to be a real marketing challenge.

I could be wrong, but 8523.80.20.00 seems to be the HTS code for vinyl records.
I tried it on both Zonos and Chit Chats, it still adds tariffs.
I wonder if this is correct, or if it is an oversight. I could see why they might view vinyl as more of a collectible. Almost like if you tried to ship a hockey card and argue that it's informational media because the back of it has information about the player that you might find in a book like stats and a short bio.
I am not saying I agree with it, only that I could possibly see how the decision might be arrived at that vinyl is a collectible and not informational media. Hopefully, it's just an error.

The HS code that I have used in the past for vinyl records: 85238010
