Where can I find the item number and is that the best way to direct a customer to an item of mine?

It's on the far right of the tab called Description.

Are you trying to set up a listing just for one special customer? When I do that, I use the customer's eBay ID as the title. Most people know their own names.

Just copy the URL and send them the direct link to the listing page.

Thank you! I knew it was there somewhere! I was responding to a customer who asked if I still had a certain item.

If you open any listing, the eBay item # is on the very far right, top line, under the description tab.  It's very small, you have to look for it.

For years eBay displayed item numbers much more prominently.  I don't know why they decided to make them so inconspicuous.  Nonetheless they are distinct for the particular item, so if you give a customer that number and tell them to copy and paste it into the "Search" box at the top of any eBay page, the item will come up.

With a store you also have the advantage of a unique store name that you can give out to prospective customers.  They can copy and paste the store name into the Search box just as for item numbers.  Once they arrive at your store, they'll be able to access all your items displayed via the category list.  You can also encourage them to add the store to their favourites in order to receive promotional emails from you, but personally I try to limit such emails to no more than once per month, otherwise people get fed up with the overload and will un-subscribe.

I think it depends on whether you're responding to an individual customer's specific request, or a general interest sort of inquiry.  For the former, I'd give out the item #, for the latter my store name.

I'll probably send the URL and an item number. Thanks for your help 🙂

'femmefan' ---On this subject, once upon a time eBay had "exclusive" listings that were a great help if a seller had a particular customer interested in a particular item.  Those are no longer permissible.  I hadn't thought of using the buyer's eBay ID in the title itself -- brilliant, thank you!

What I've been doing (for example if I custom-make an item and then list it for a particular buyer) is mentioning in the description that "this item is intended for purchase by eBay ID ________" etc., but obviously the ID in the title will prevent many others from finding the item and grabbing it first.

Do you include anything else in the title, or only the buyer's eBay ID?

You are awesome! Thank you for your advice. The item number was way easier to find before! I agree 🙂

Slight correction to the earlier post -- I've just realized the store name has to be input on the advanced search page, specifying a search by store name.  On my website I use the store home page URL.
