The promotion came in a few minutes ago by email.

Sellers that have been invited to participate will automatically receive the Promotion after they activate the Promotion from the invitation email or the Promotion landing page, and then create Qualifying Listings on the US site at www.ebay.com, or eBay Motors at www.ebay.com/motors (Parts & Accessories and Automotive Tools & Supplies only) through the Sell Your Item form, eBay Seller Tools, eBay Mobile applications, and most third-party tools.

I suspect we got the promotion not because we list on .com but because we were both registered on eBay.com before eBay.ca was created. We are "legacy users".

I am trying to find out if anyone registered in Canada that sells on both .ca and .com are getting any of the actual US offers.

In other words, if you are registered in the US, you are eligible , If you are registered in Canada do you no longer get the US specials?

That question was asked on one of the chat sessions but as usual, no clear direct answer.

YES you are. All of us Canadians registered on eBay.com (there was not eBay.ca in 1998/1999) are considered "legacy users" whether we like it or not.

I didn't get it but that in itself doesn't mean anything as sellers do not receive every promotion. But I suspect that where you list has nothing to do with it. If a promotion is just for listing on .com then it wouldn't surprise me if it just goes out to those registered on .com and/or legacy users. But hopefully if that is the case, they will often have 'mirrored' promotions on .ca at the same time.

To be candid this is how I see future "free listing" promotions:

Canadians will receive promotions to list on eBay.ca in Cdn$. Those promotions will not include the option of listing on eBay.com

Americans (and Canadian legacy users) will receive promotions to list on eBay.com. Those promotions will not include the option to list on eBay.ca

At times, everybody will get a promotion to list on either eBay.com (in US$) or eBay.ca (in Cdn$)

In all instances I expect eBay to continue the current trend to have these promotions "by invitation" where not everyone is invited.

And, if enough sellers complain, eBay may revert to the old system of having only one "one day"(used to be after Christmas) promotion per year.

I got the invite.

I am a legacy user.

I only list on .COM

This particular one is no good to me anyway, I hardly list any auctions... only as "attractant" general auction sell price is 1/3 to 1/5 of what the same item sells for as BIN in my store.....

I agree with 1 and 2 but not with 3. Ebay never gives the same promotion to 2 different countries that I know of.

We are getting separated and I think all promos from now on will be either US or Canada but not both

I don't see having to use our own currency on this site as being 'separated.'

Right now they want to encourage people to list in Cdn $ here so that may be why they are restricting some promos to a specific site.

But that doesn't mean that they can't do the same promo on both sites in the future. Any promo that I've gotten before was for either site so it is possible that they will continue to do that once this site has only Canadian currency. The 50k gtc promo on right now is on both sites.

All I will say is Ebay is not the same as it was a few months ago so what they did then does not mean they will do it in the future!

Just wondering what you guys think the purpose of the promotions is?

I think they are to encourage large numbers of listings on specific sites, in specific categories, of specific types in order to make that stie/category and type of listing look more popular than it has been.

Since eBay is almost the only general auction site around, eBay does a lot of promotions for auctions to keep sellers from choosing the more reliable and cheaper Fixed Price option.

Right now we have a promotion encouraging Canadian dollar listings, in preparation for the June through August changeover to eBaydotCA as a single currency site.

All promotions are for the benefit of eBay.

Pouting won't change that.

That is basically what I said but the Ebay rah rah people keep supporting Ebay.

I am not pouting and will wait to see who is correct and who is not with the listing specials.

Sorry but I don't see how you equate people saying that x and x is a possibility as supporting eBay. You could be right but there is more than one possibility and imo it doesn't do any good to assume the worst.
