I am interested in buying a camera from Korea and shipping it to Toronto. The value is approx $700 CAD.
Do you know if I will need to pay HST (13%) and Duties? I assume this will be charged by Canada Post upon delivery.
Thanks

Yes.
And a $9.95 service charge from Canada Post.

Take a look at:
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/import/postal-postale/duty-droits-eng.html
Cameras entering Canada from Asia are generally duty free. Sales tax applies (13% in Ontario) based on the Canadian dollar value.
Then add $9.95 service fee by Canada Post

If the camera is sent by mail, of course. Some camera sellers prefer to use commercial carriers such as FedEx.

What about duties it does not seem to be as clearcut as HST?
My understanding is that cameras are not subject to duty when imported into Canada, regardless of the country of manufacturer/origin.

Hello 'happy_guardian',
<<What about duties it does not seem to be as clearcut as HST? >>
As others here have stated, on a sum that large you will almost certainly be charged tax plus the Canada Post fee,
but there should be no duty on camera equipment coming from just about anywhere.
Here are a couple links you can try out for yourself, -- when I do it I get roughly $91 Cdn + the CP $9.95 fee you will
be charged. See what you think, -- there is a Duty and Taxes Estimator:
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/travel-voyage/pdt-pdt-eng.html#_s3
and this Pitney-Bowes estimator. You will not be using the GSP for an item coming from Asia but the amounts assessed
should give you an idea about whatever you buy:
http://www.dutycalculator.com/new-import-duty-and-tax-calculation/
This link here shows that most related items are duty-free in a handy chart:
http://www.photoprice.ca/article/duty-on-camera-equipment
and from there, in the section on Duty, this one here explains that "Most photographic equipment is duty free, when
imported from most countries, including the States."
http://www.photoprice.ca/article/tax-duty-brokerage-demystified
There are all sorts of related links in there to click on if you don't mind reading and like to see for yourself.
I wish you well with it.
