Hey there historysci! Yes, I have noticed the message too and since I have a fedex Canada account I jumped on the discount. To answer your question, no your a not obligated to ship via FedEx for all shipments after you apply the discount, because the discount only applies to your fedex account. I sent out a 2 pound package to Miami,Fl on Thursday and I was blown away by the new discounted rates for fedex. Plus the package left Canada in the matter of hours. Since I am so use to Canada Post Tracked Packet's very slow transit times, I was pleased to see the package move within the FedEx network super fast. I estimated the shipping cost for the package with the dim of 12" x 10" x 5" 2 LBS and the regular price was over $80 and with the discounted price was $26 for FedEx International Economy which is 2 day shipping!! The address I was shipping to was commercial so the price dropped to $23. But comparing Canada Post's tracked packet for $20 , I would rather pay the extra $3-$6 to get it to my customer in 2 days!Also , I've been looking at a lot of estimates for the discount and it appears that the $26 is a flat rate price to ship to the US. Once the package hits over 10 LBS the price changes to $27-$30 which is still an amazing deal for 2 day shipping. From now on I will be using FedEx International Economy to ship all my packages that are over 2 pounds to the US. I have been waiting for a discount like this to happen for a while, what I want to know is, how long the discount lasts for. FedEx nor ebay mentioned this so I am assuming it will be a permanent or a long time discount.
