HELP - Missing Assay Office on Sterling - Can Not Identify Maker

Hello... We have a pair of nineteenth century English (?) sugar nips for which we can not identify the maker because there is no assay office mark.

The other markings are as follows. We have attached photos.

- lion passant in shield
- lower case date mark "b" in square
- duty mark of male figure facing right
- maker's mark "IL" in square

Wow, I had gone a long time without reading this thread because I felt I had not answer about a question on silver and thought it would just be a quiet little boring thread about markings etc. (No offence intended it's just that I know absolutely NOTHING about silver...lol). Figured someone would answer and the thread would die and that would be the end of it.

I then noticed it didn't die and it was getting larger and larger and I was thinking maybe I best take a peek and find out what's so interesting about silver markings. LOL

Anyhow, I came in late, my opinions aren't necessary so I'll keep my mouth shut but I hope everyone continues posting. 🐵

But....I don't know who that is goddammit. I am on a need to know basis and I need to know. 🙂

How are you Deb? How are things in your world, this bright shiney day?

We are going to an Embassy cocktail party tonight and I am sitting here waiting for my nails to dry. That has to be the most boring this in the world to do 😕

Jackie, my dear, you are wrong on this one (this is the first mind you)

The most boring thing in the world to do is wait until someone else's nails dry. Ask a husband!

LOL @ Jackie. Wow, and Embassy party!!! How exciting!!! How did you rate the invite? LOL My mom lives in Ottawa and when I go visit her we usually go across to Hull to the casino and we pass all these nice houses which are Embassies.

Malcolm, you do raise a good point! LOL I myself don't paint my finger nails so my husband doesn't have to worry about this. ;o)

LOL @ Malcolm. I guess I never thought about it that way. But, in our own defense, I am sure there are times where we have to wait for you men. I just can't seem to think of a single one right at this moment.

But I will.....I weawwy will!

The irony, of course, is that a thread that should have died long ago didn't, because I spoke up, thinking that this thread doesn't belong. Now it's sitting atop the board, and has been for a few days. 🙂

Thanks to Malcolm's puns, I think I'll stick around. I'm such a sucker for the puns.

But don't expect me to join your gang. 😉

Glad to hear from you.

And Jackie, see who takes longer to go pee, you or your husband. We are just made by God to be faster than women, sorry nothing you can do about it.

We are faster at getting lost when driving, faster at opening our mouths and putting our feet in.. No competition!

I used to go to embassy parties all the time many, many years ago. My uncle was Mayor of Ottawa and I went to all sorts of events including tons of embassy parties.
Dont recall ever doing my nails!

Malcolm

Hands-free, women are better at writing their name in the snow than men....

Anyone old enough to remember the Trudeau joke about something similar to that?

An RCMP officer was arrested for writing 'Down with Trudeau' in a snow bank. They learned who the the officer was by performing an anlysis on the yellow fluid in the snow.

He got off the charges though. It was Margaret's handwriting!

Malcolm, you've got a rude surprise waiting for you! It all depends on your husband's age ... believe me!!

Heck I though when you get older you pee faster and more often in fact so fast and often you end up wetting your pants.

Now thats fast.

You know, I heard there are two stages of old age in men -- one is when they forget to zip up; the second is when they forget to unzip!

You're right! Huggies time!!

Are you people having a good time with my privates???? Yeeeesh...can't leave yas alone for a minute...yas all go nuts.

Back from the party - lots of butt kissing - good l'il Military Man with his not so bad looking wife on his arm to meet and greet the muckety-mucks. I got stuck with the wife of the Coxwain who is an Easterner and she never shut up, you guys. And, I mean she was always talking about herself and her stuff. Even when I went to comment, she'd interject with yet another anecdote. She is so nice though...just selfish with the convo.

I am bushed now. Happy to be at home, in bed with my laptop and my TV 😕

You guys are all nuts. But boy oh boy....I luv yas :))
