I was reading the maximum shipping fees for books info and was wondering if this applies to Canadians listing on ebay.ca but in US$?

If the max shipping charge is $4.00, why do I see others listing higher shipping prices?  Does local pick up for free count as qualifying as $4.00 and under?  I'm asking because I want to list a bunch of books but it seems that in most cases I will have to charge over $4.00 for shipping as it will cost me over $4 to ship.

Because the seller can use Calculated Shipping and then set the price based on the dimensions of the parcel and the service used.

Also because the $4.00 cap only applies to domestic (US) shipping not International (like to Canada).

Free is less than $4.00. In any case, since your local pickup would be in Canada, it would not be subject to the cap, since it is International (on the eBay site.)

I'm asking because I want to list a bunch of books but it seems that in most cases I will have to charge over $4.00 for shipping as it will cost me over $4 to ship.

Books listed on the dotCA site are not subject to the stupid shipping cap. If you are shipping paperbacks, many can be sent Letter rate for well under $4 (max Letter rate is $3.85 domestic /Canada and $3.70 for LetterPost under 200 grams to the USA).

If the books are over 500 grams and over 2cm thick then you have to move to Calculated Shipping and use Expedited. However, we do get a 20-25% discount on shipping Expedited if we print our shipping labels through Paypal.

OT but- your Rum Soaked Crooks (170929658512) is a hoot!

I wonder if you might do better just selling the lid without the box. That would reduce the shipping cost (it could go Letter rate) and you might get multiple bids.

But what do I know? I'm too busy laughing.

Great! Thanks for your reply! I list on dotCA but in US dollars. So this should allow me to not have to charge $4.00 or less, right?
I think using calculated shipping will be the easiest for me and to me it seems that it's the most transparent to the purchaser. But if the book qualifies for lettermail, I'll definitely go that route. Thanks again!
