I have made bids on a couple of items which are the highest, and I have taken pictures of these items when i made these bids, my question is can a bid lower than mine be accepted

Bids go up by little increments. Let's say the seller lists with a start price of $10.

No bids yet.

You bid $50. But all is shows is $10.

The next person can come along and bid $15,

or $25,

or $32.57

and you are always the highest bidder by a little bit. You will win at just an amount high enough to be ahead.

But if someone bids even just $50.01 that once cent is enough to overtake you in the race and win the item.

Unless you bid more again before the end of the auction.

The highest bid ALWAYS wins the auction. If 2 people bid exactly the same amount, the one that did it first wins.

I don't think I understand what you mean.

Are you asking if a bid lower than yours will win the auction? No. Not unless your bid has been manually cancelled by the seller.

Under what circumstances do you think that would happen?

Many people bid at literally the last second. You can be outbid until the very moment the auction closes.

As long as the other bidders are bidding more than the current winning bid value it is accepted. Your maximum bid determines if the new bid is immediately out bid.

Example: Your maximum bid is $40, and the current selling winning bid level is $10. Another bidder just has to bid $11 or more for it to be accepted -- they are not required to bid $41. But if they bid $11, then your max bid trumps them and the new winning bid level becomes $12.
