Thanks for the comments Don.
Most of my customers also pay with PayPal but it is largely newbies that want to send the money orders. They have no history with on-line payment services and feel more comfortable with sending a traditional money order. It's hard to convince them that they actually have more protection if they go the on-line payment route.
In my most recent episode with green USPS money orders:
1) the auction shows the images and cautions about USPS green money orders
2)my end of auction email had my standard caution regarding the same
3)the customer then emailed me and asked "Can I send you a Postal money order?" I replied with the caution to send the International (pink) version. I also cautioned to put appropriate postage on the envelope to get it to Canada.
4)Three weeks later I receive the payment with a note apologizing for the delay. It appears that the first mailing was returned to her for insufficient postage. In the envelope was... yes.... a green USPS money order.
Makes me want to shake them violently until their brain cells fall into place. I am seriously considering going with on-line payments only (no more money orders or cashiers cheques).
Deltone, it was explained to me that the no one wants to accept them anymore because they cannot be submitted through normal banking transfers (that is, Canadian banks to USA banks). The USA banks will no longer accept them from Canadian sources. The few that still accept them in Canada (like some of the currency exchange operations) apparently physically run the money orders across the border to a US office or bank.
