Negotiations Update: Postal service will not be interrupted while talks continue

While there have been numerous threads devoted to the looming Canada Post strike/lockout, there is now another development so I thought about starting a new thread. Hopefully, this will keep our discussion on this moving forward as well.

Negotiations Update

Postal service will not be interrupted while talks continue

Dear Canada Post customer,

Canada Post has withdrawn its 72-hour notice, which was to take effect Monday, July 11. As a result, there will be no lockout. We also expect the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) to honour what it has said publicly on many occasions – that they wish to negotiate and have no plans to issue a strike notice.

We therefore expect mail service to continue without interruption, and we feel you can ship with us with confidence. In the event of a strike or lockout, either party has to issue a 72-hour notice and should this occur we would advise you immediately. At that time, we would work with customers to keep them informed and to prevent product from being trapped in the postal system.

Our decision to withdraw our 72-hour notice followed a statement issued by the Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour, MaryAnn Mihychuk, for both Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to continue their discussions beyond the notice period. The parties now have the opportunity to focus on serious negotiations.

As we focus on that, our thousands of employees will focus on serving you, our customers.

Sincerely,
Serge Pitre
Vice-president, Sales
Canada Post Corporation

I don't know about "slower", but I received a parcel from Hong Kong today and it took LESS than three weeks, which is rare!

Parcels seem to be moving quickly through the system right now, probably because of lower volumes.

Update from ebay: they are rolling back their lockout precautions.

http://announcements.ebay.ca/2016/07/11/7828/

On Sunday, Canada Post announced that it had retracted its lockout notice to the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), effectively removing the possibility of a strike or lockout until another 72 hour notice is issued by either party. At this time, Canada Post is accepting and delivering packages and mail as usual.

In response to this development, eBay Canada will now initiate a process to roll back the changes made to estimated delivery dates as well as the buyer-facing messaging about a possible disruption. We will reinstate these measures as necessary, pending further announcements from Canada Post and/or CUPW.

Sellers who put their eBay Stores on vacation mode or otherwise reduced or removed their eBay inventory are now strongly encouraged to return to business as usual.

Parcels may be moving...  perhaps because there is  not that much mail in the system

But CPC and CUPW have resolved nothing...

72 hours could start at any moment...  strike or lockout

and the postal system will be clogged with mail  that will not be moving....

Someone has to put a stop to this lack of agreement between CPC and CUPW.

There has to come a point in all of this negotiation where  the people of Canada  and uninterrupted mail delivery are the most important consideration ....

Every morning we wake up and start our next 72 hours of waiting....

and suddenly everyone is happy with that 72 hour window......

72 hours equals a handling time of 3 days....

My message as it relates to my store ... On Vacation.....

---------------------------------------------------

This Store seller is currently away. Please add this Store to your Favorites and come again.

Much has happened.   Canada Post continues to negotiate with the union....  However  after over 6 months nothing has been resolved.

There continues to be the possibility of a total work stoppage... a strike by the union or a lockout by Canada Post, and as a consequence no mail delivery.

Canada Post is in a total standoff with its union... Neither Canada Post or the union is ready to budge....  There is absolutely no guarantee of anything other than a continued disregard for the needs of those that routinely use Canada Post.

As a seller on eBay this seller has chosen to remain on vacation  and face the situation one day at a time
