Feedback is important but why make it more complicated?

FB for shipping charges? Exactly! eBay wants us to incorporate the cost of shipping in asking price to charge us more for final value fee....

Hey, I only have 4 stars for shipping cost and I pass along my 40% discount on UPS. I sure as hades ain't sweatin it. LOL

if you get one feedback at a time (like me)-i know some sellers here sell lots of volume, and may get a few at once, but if you're like me, and some others, you CAN tell who gave you what score from the stars, depending on which way they move. so anonymous? not always...

Even for the "few at once" crowd once you have accumulated a reasonable quantity it will take much more than 1 feedback to move your rating (just like the current FB percentage).

It will take a bit longer now that they are splitting it into tenths rather than half point increments but still if you have say 100 ratings even a 2 or 3 by one buyer will not move your overall rating.

Im not even sure what the point is of the obsession to know who left a lower rating. Is anyone going to block someone for a transaction that went fine but they didn't leave all 5s? Give up a potential futures sale from them, I doubt it. A few people have retaliated with negs or neutrals for lowering their star count (couple got crucified on .com threads for that), not only does that look awful to anyone who notices it happened, its got to be plain stupid to mess with someone like that and chance they aren't some nutjob whos going to look to get even.

i have a 4.8 out of 5 for shipping price. i don't charge shipping as my products are transferred online. can't see the stars playing a big roll in buyers purchasing decisions, it's all in the feedback comments that are left.
if a lot of sellers are noticing a large decline of the number of feedbacks being received, then ebay should look into offering buyers 'incentive' to go through with the feedback process.

don't agree here. as a buyer, i would think (as i am myself one as well) that its just human nature to visualize the seller's rating at a glance (stars)...if there's a category, ie..item description that has a star or part of a star missing...this registers to us that the seller may have a problem with the clarity of their item description, and may worry buyers a bit. as buyers, we want to see full stars..if we don't, we hesitate. i also don't think buyers read all positive feedback comments, we may look for the negetive ones to read those, (again, human nature), but generally, we sum up the seller in one glance at feedback score and the new star system...

I think you are right to a certain extent Kat. As a buyer I would glance at the stars to see if there was something I should review further, but provided they were above 4 in all aspects I would think things were fine.

and if sellers who don't charge any S/H, have below 5... eBay should re-think it... because something is not working right ?:|

Kasha, people continue to buy (in droves) from megasellers who cannot even maintain a 98% FB average. Don't worry about it.

On a side note, I just checked my own FB - since the introduction of FB2 on May 01 I have received 81 feedback comments. Only 43 of those bothered to fill out the star system.

I just had some newbie drop my S&H because I shipped something Priority Mail. It was a heavy craft book and couldn't go as First Class. She wanted me to send it Media Mail. I politely said no because it takes too long. She dinged me. LOL

And the earth keeps revolving..... Very interesting obvservation for someone who doesn't charge S&H to have less than 5. Gotta be a few nutbars there and yep something wrong with the system with that example. Or, would it be more the people and not necessarily the system? ?:|

Well they won't be buying on eBay. I doubt by the end of May it will be possible to find a Seller with 5's across the board. In fact it will probably be very hard to find a seller with a 5 rating in ANY of the four categories.

I had a look at one of .com's very rare sellers, they have a 100% rating, have never rec'd a neg and have over 10,000 rating. If anyone could have 5's they would and in less than two weeks they don't. Once you "slip" to 4.9 it's almost impossible to get back to a 5.

yup...after the novelty wears off, and almost EVERYONE will have pretty much 4's for the most part, it will be considered a 'good score'...and you're right recped, i don't think ANYONE will ever have a full five star rating...

Then wouldn't the purpose of Feedback 2.0 become exactly what the old feedback system was? When everyone has all 4's the whole point of the new system is pointless again....
