I don't like it X-(

Feedback is important but why make it more complicated?

FB for shipping charges? Exactly! eBay wants us to incorporate the cost of shipping in asking price to charge us more for final value fee....

I don't like it X-(

That seems excessive. Perhaps you need to review your business model.

Excuse my ignorance, but do you mean the format of auction vs listing, store vs no store....or what else do you mean by a business model?

probsbly just reviewing expenses vs profitability...367.00 in fees compared to a 967.00 isn't that good percentage wise...

New FEEDBACK system... what do you think?

Your business model is basically how you've designed your business, focusing on how you will generate revenues/income. Many sellers both here and in all forms of business amazingly enough don't put much thought into their business model. They just takes some products and attempt to sell them and make a few bucks. But for something to work long-term you have to put real thought into it. Are you able to purchase stuff for resale at a price that allows you to make enough profit to cover costs involved in the operations and to have enough left over to make the effort worth it (profit margin)? Are the products you're attempting to sell actually selling (demand)? If so are enough selling to make the wheel go (volume)? Is what you're selling have long-term demand or are we talking about fad items or stuff that could become obsolete in the near future? Is your stuff unique enough that you won't get lost in the mass of competition?

These are some of the hard questions that we all need to constantly be asking ourselves if we want current and continued success. We have to be able to be honest with ourselves and admit when our business model is just not working. In today's world you have to embrace change, as uncomfortable as that may be, and tweak, evolve or completely revamp our business models when the need arises or ideally BEFORE the need arises. Personally our philosophy is that you need to have a good balance between specialization AND diversification. That sounds kinda contradictory but it really isn't. We feel you have to focus on an area with the goal of becoming the best at it...but you also always have to be looking to add things to what you sell that compliment what you already do without going in a completely different direction. This way you are always building new legs to stand on and thereby less vulnerable. If you put your mind to it, it is even very possible to "season proof" your business. The summer being slow in our opinion is in many ways a myth. I've lived in Florida, in the summer most people there are indoors beating the heat and are spending as much time online shopping as anytime of the year. I'm sure it's the same way in many hot climates or anywhere that the dead heat of summer forces people indoors to the comfort of AC. If however all you sell is ice skates well then its gonna be slow in the summer...but if you added roller blades to your line??...A very raw example but I think you get my drift.

Staying on your toes is obviously very challenging both mentally and financially. But it's what you have to do in today's world to succeed. It would be nice if we all could just get a few easy to find products, list them and then pocket the easy money. But let's face it that isn't realistic. When the bottom line is just not adding up there's no point blaming ebay (as frustrating as they can be) because even if they aren't what we'd like them to be, if you can't make a buck here with your model, you probably won't make it anywhere. With all its faults, ebay is still a dirt cheap way to do business.

New FEEDBACK system... what do you think?

Thanks for all of the information Marcello. Actually I only started on eBay to see if I could sell items that don't sell other places but I buy at a good price. The items I sell are unique and I did very well with them until one of the biggest sellers on eBay started selling a particular line of copper jewelry that is not the same as mine but made from copper nonetheless. I can handle competition when it is an equal playing field but this seller charges outrageous shipping and handling while selling the jewelry dirt cheap. I find it difficult to compete with them without going the same route of avoiding eBay listing fees and making money on shipping and handling as they do. And I don't want to do that, but if eBay lets sellers get away with listing fee avoidance then that is the same thing as my trying to compete with Walmart. I started out with a good market and I am not giving up yet. I have added other products that I already sell--all copper--in different categories. I have 2 new potential suppliers with unique copper products hoping that people will buy it because it is unique and not because it is cheap. I am trying to build a reputation for good service and quality products as opposed to the poor quality and service of this other seller. I also have other products in mind to sell using another ID and I have been taking courses on internet selling. Hopefully it will all come together. And there are always different products to sell! And I am always willing to learn!

And to stay on topic my competitor's second ID has no listings and I assume all of the negative feedback caught up with them in the recent sweep. This seller also had 2 stores, one under each ID. I thought you could only have one store at a time!?

Sounds to me Judy that you are doing all the right things..bravo!

ebay's new excessive s & h policy should curb this person, a little at least hopefully. Personally I capish that people are trying to save on fees, but I think its gimmicky and in the end it just annoys customers and ends up being a negative. At the same time you have to truly believe your product has value and is worth the asking price. Once you get into the trying to be the cheapest game you've already got one foot in the grave. I have a competitor on ebay who sets his price amazingly high on a particular line of products...and guess what? he gets the asking price more often than not! Even though he's a competitor I admire his belief in the value of what he is selling. We used to think we had strong belief in the value of what we sell, but finding this guy has rattled our cage and made us realize our belief in the value of our products could use some work. This guy does virtually identical volume in terms of units sold as we do, but probably does twice our sales at least for very similar stuff.

Which leads me to a joke:-)....

Guy walks up to a fruit stand..."How much are your apples?" he asks

Fruit guy: "Well the more you buy the cheaper they get"

Apple buyer: "Ok good, I'll back up my truck, fill it up until they are free" 😉

That is what I am counting on Marcello, that in the end this seller's game will catch up with him. He has tons of negative feedback but sells thousands of items a week so the negatives get lost. The second ID didn't have as many feedback and couldn't bury the neg's as easily.

I do believe in my products and my customers have said on numerous occasions that the quality exceeded their expectations. I have a lot of repeat business and I believe that building a strong customer base built on quality and service will pay off in the long run. It may take longer but will be worth it in the end. I learned long ago that if people want something they will buy it at your asking price. Reducing the price rarely makes it sell better. And whoever buys it would probably have paid the original price. It is a little different on eBay though and I may have to look at ways of giving added value to entice the customers further.

I love marketing! It is a continual learning process. Now where is this fruit stand? I'll get my truck ready!!:^O
