Has anyone noticed you can now ship with CP or UPS from inside Paypal?

Anyone tried it yet?

Looks pretty easy and simple, but the rates don't seem to be as good as what I get now with EST. Could there be a way to ship on your CP account from there?

Also, if we ship CP Small Packet from Paypal, will they consider it as a proof of shipment?

Hi esellerauction and grade_a_consignments,

If esellerauction is correct, it seems like users can select whether or not they want to show the postage. I will confirm with Ira Grossman, from our Shipping team, and get back to you. He isn't in the office this afternoon, but I will be sure to have an official response by Monday.

I will get you the facts! 🙂

To clarify what is going on but NOT commenting on the service and whether it's any good or not.

eBay are acting like a Canada Post franchise, they receive a discount from CP based on the total volume of postage that they sell (Xpresspost & Expedited). I expect their volume will be sufficient to get them if not the best certainly close to the best discount available (probably in the 35 - 40% range. They will pass along a modest portion of this (8 or 9%) to eBay sellers. If they can reach the 50,000 unit mark on small packets they will get a bit of a discount on that (which they will keep entirely).

This is exactly the same as with any CP franchise outlet EXCEPT (and it's a big one) the regular franchise outlets also must sell stamps (tiny discount), handle all those parcels and registered items that are "carded" and all the other tasks that you see being done at a postal outlet. Outlets make nothing on these tasks, it's simply the "cost" of having a franchise.

For the people on this Powerseller board the PayPal postage might be convienient for some but it's not a money saver as a much larger discount can be had by signing up with CP for a "contract rate". For small time sellers I guess the service has it's advantages.

I expect that the 30% powerseller CP discount will vanish if it hasn't already.

They've removed all references to "postal discount" from the power seller benefit page. So effectively the "deal" with Canada post, that ebay has been making a big deal about being a benefit to us for months, is the smae price for some, and a big price INCREASE for others . Forgive me for not being blown away by being able to "print from paypal".

As of now the CP 30% discount still exists. It looks like you can charge PayPal Postage to your CDN$ credit card in CDN funds without going through 2 conversions.

For small packet and outside Canada postage (I am only at the bronze level so know discounts outside of Canada) I think PayPal Postage will probably be a big timesaver.

I will find out for sure next week when I do my next shipments.

Yeah, it 'looks' like it - but I can't get it to actually let me.

I think it actually takes longer than using the CP on-line tools (not the desktop, the on-line version) - you might want to try that. That way you can throw your parcels in the mailbox, and almost the identical print-out.

If you check post 137 on the thread on CTS http://forums.ebay.ca/thread.jspa?messageID=600042441 you will see that apparently it works. Perhaps you are clicking your mouse too hard (you should see the looks I get at work when I suggest that. I think some people take me seriously).

I currently use the desktop tools. I just figure if I can save cutting and pasting addresses it will save some time.

BTW, care to share the 'story'?

I can easily ALT+TAB between Outlook and EST Desktop to copy/paste addresses. The hassle of paying for each one and going through all those web browser windows will become quite a chore when doing multiple packages.

If time is such a priority and you use Desktop EST, start using QuickShip. You only put in the weight/dimensions and postal code...print the label, and attach it to a box that's already been addressed. Postal code, weight, F9 should take you maybe 15 seconds a package.

Can you use quick ship for US addresses or only Canadian addresses?

Unfortunately only for Canadian addresses, yet that's where the savings are for the PowerSeller discount anyways.

Hi catseye*,

I just wanted to follow-up to see if you had any luck with changing your options. I have been able to pay for my shipping charges using my confirmed CAD currency Canadian bank account.

It may be that you need to confirm you CAD currency bank account. Laird, my fellow pink, posted some step-by-step instructions on how to get this done, which I have provided below. If this doesn't help, please let me know and I can dig for you.

Cheers,
Vaughan

Post from Laird:
1. Make sure you click the "more funding options" link in PayPal. It will take you to a PayPal page which asks you to choose which funding account you wish to pay your CAD shipping charges with. The choices are (1) US or CAD PayPal Balance accounts (2) CAD currency bank account (3) CAD currency credit card

2. Make sure that your CAD currency bank account is "Confirmed". If it's unconfirmed, you should see a "confirm account" link beside your grayed-out bank account. After you set-up your CAD bank account on PayPal, PayPal places two deposits of nominal amounts into your CAD bank account. You will need your bank statement to determine the deposit amounts (i.e. $0.15 and $0.18). You then go to your PayPal account and confirm your CAD bank account by entering the two PayPal deposit amounts ($0.15 & $0.18) into PayPal. Your bank account is now confirmed.

3. For the confirmed CAD bank account that you want to draw your shipping charges from, please make sure that you make it your "Primary" bank account by:

a. Go to PayPal
b. Go to "My Account"
c. Click "Profile"
d. Under the "Financial Information" heading, click "Bank Account"
e. Choose the CAD bank account you want your shipping charges to come out from
f. Click "Make Primary"

Your primary confirmed bank account should now appear as an option under "more funding options".

Hi Vaughan,

I was able to do a small packet last night using my newly added Canadian $ Credit Card.

The one pain about this is that before I do any shipping I have to change my Primary Credit Card to my Canadian $ Credit Card. After shipping I then have to go back into preferences to change my primary Credit Card back to my US$ card so any purchases I make get charged to my US$ card.

It would be nice if the drop down list would include not just your Primary Credit Card but also the other Credit Cards you may have on file.

The only other thing I discovered is that the new Postage system does not print shipping labels if you are using the Opera browser.

Something else I noticed when I ship using paypal I dont get the options of safedrop or dont safedrop as well as the rest of the list is not there.
Also I noticed that a Expedited parcel to Canada via Paypal cost me the same as when I use the CP EST with PowerSeller discount,

Something in your EST then isn't done right. The PayPal shipping is equivalent to counter prices-8% when I looked at it.
