Here's a link to some of the bans already in effect in Europe.

Surprisingly, as of this writing (in 2010) there was a ban on veils in public buildings even in Turkey(!).

The rationale is pretty vague.

Trudeau very quickly carving a reputation for transparency, honesty and forthrightness. Possibly not the best move for a politician but it may be what is needed in Canada.

I actually might agree with CBC version of this proposition, that would require government and their employees to remain secular or leave government service if that is unacceptable. There is a clear choice.

My beef was with Toronto Sun interpretation of this proposal, which would affect everyone receiving any government service. People usually don't have lot of choices when they are applying for passport, renewing driver's license or driving wife in labor to hospital.

It is interesting that in order to preserve Quebec culture that the Quebec government has chosen to destroy the culture of other people within it's jurisdiction.
