A couple of months ago a fellow walked into a theatre and started shooting people.
The other day a fellow walks in a mall and starts shooting but luckily his gun jammed and only two people were killed.
Today a man walks in an elementary school in Connecticut. And 27 are dead, including children. http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/5569025c-4613-11e2-ae8d-00144feabdc0.html#axzz2F3FPan2u

Death toll now being reported as 30.
One shooter was killed in the school.
They found what they think is a second shooter hiding in the woods.
I know that some people here think guns are cool.
In the states, it is just too easy to get them and use them.
I can see one crazy person doing this - but two people.
Guns don't kill - people kill.
I guess we just need to keep the two apart.
If people don't have guns, they will have to be more creative.
They may still kill, but the numbers will likely be smaller.

To much conflicting information coming out. Information says that the shooter arrived with two guns (they didn’t say what type) and wearing a mask and bullet proof vest.
The shooter is 24 yr old Myron Lansa (last name might be spelled wrong) from New Jersey and his mother supposedly was a teacher at the same school. She is one of the people dead. Reports say the shooter has possibly killed in other locations before coming to the school.
The US has a gun culture but it has always had a gun culture and nothing like this has happened before 1999. After that there have been 31 school shootings in the US. So is it the proliferation of guns, or a change in the culture of the USA? Some will say it's the music and others will say it's the movies and yet others will say it is video games.....all of which are desensitizing the younger generation. Hard to say, but I am sure it will be studied in every possible way.

I remember there was that Wild Rose candidate in the Alberta election who was ranting on about some "lake of fire" (in a religious context). That was a big reason why a lot of the people eventually decided to forego (or postpone?) their flirtation with the Wild Rose Party and stick with the PCs.
Right at this moment there are a whole lot of people who know what a lake of fire looks like.

This is a tragedy, I was shocked, it is beyond comprehension.

Two thoughts:
The drugs have been banned for long time, so we should have no junkies by now.
Slaughter 10 sheep from the herd and then try to do the same with 10 wolves from the pack and observe the difference.
One more thought:
The kids are so much protected from parents disciplining them, but who will protect their kids when they grow up ? We have to wait another generation when kids of those spoiled and overprotected kids grow up and humility and reason will return.

The shooter had a Sig Sauer and an unidentified 9 mm. He also had a Bushmaster rifle in his car, but it was not used in the shootings.
Ryan Lanza's brother was arrested in the woods behind the school. A witness said that he was wearing camouflage clothing.
According to CNN, Lanza had no criminal record and was not on any watch list. He would have "easily qualified" to buy the guns legally according to CNN.

This is an epidemic and a national emergency for the United States of America.
These shootings are becoming a near-monthly occurrence.
They already have the highest rate of incarceration in the world.
The level of gun ownership and carrying is ridiculous.
The involvement of the NRA in political shenanigans and influence is despicable and criminal.
The level of violence in culture, in games and on TV and film is horrendous.
I would love to see Obama do something that would make a difference.

Obama's speech a few minutes ago was very emotionally. He appeared unable to speak at one point and wiped a teas from his cheek. He may indeed choose this time as a time for action.
One commentator said that it is time to treat handguns like you would other dangerous substances. We keep poisons on a high shelf to keep them away from people who might be harmed by them. He said, "is it time to put guns on the same high shelf".
Easier said than done. It is virtually impossible to screen people to see whether they could "safely" own a hand gun. The shooter in this case showed no red flags and legally bought the murder weapons. There is only one answer - ban gun ownership. Reduce the number of guns that are too easily available in homes and businesses and in vehicles. How many acts of violence are committed because the gun might just have been there.
Now being reported that police have entered a home connected to Lanza. Apparently they have found two bodies. Lanza's father cannot be found at this time.
One would be hard pressed to right a movie script that could be any worse than this.

This shooter and others are the definition of acute psychosis. Often this is ongoing and not something that just appears unless increased by the use of a drug. It manifests itself in leaving reality and periods of rage, hallucination. Schizophrenia also has this psychosis. There will have to be research done regarding this shooter. On the news a girl who went to school with Lanza described him as quiet and the kind of guy who felt lost amongst others.
Sig Sauer is a manufacturer who makes both pistols and military rifles. Students and teachers said they heard hundreds of shots so most possibly he had a combat rifle with large interchangeable clips.
Ryan Lanza's brother was arrested in the woods behind the school. A witness said that he was wearing camouflage clothing.
Haven’t heard that. Although it was mentioned briefly in the news that one man was seen with handcuffs on, but no mention of camouflage clothing.
I would love to see Obama do something that would make a difference.
It would be very difficult. There is the interpretation of the Constitution and the gun lobby in the US. Gun owners will say it was the person not the gun and others will say less guns means less opportunity for serious events like this. A report by the FBI said after the election there was a record spike in gun acquisition because of fear of Obama possibly adding to gun restrictions.
Just my personal opinion and based on psychology, I lean more towards the movies and the video games which are desensitizing the young people and others.

Some of the still photos being shown on CBS show the absolute horror on the faces of many of the children escaping from the school. I cannot imagine being a parent going to the firehall (where survivors were taken) to find out whether my child was alive or dead.

Twenty children dead. Six adults dead. The shooter is dead.
At least one dead at a secondary crime scene.

Not a shooting but a school massacar in 1927
On May 18, 1927, 45 people, mostly children, were killed and 58 were injured when disgruntled and demented school board member Andrew Kehoe dynamited the new school building in Bath, Michigan out of revenge over his foreclosed farm due in part to the taxes required to pay for the new school.

If Obama tried that there would be riots in the streets.
Americans are gun crazy.
